Post by chloeme »

hello forumites!
if this topic is allowed on this forum, i need to ask for help in setting up the game in order to simulate multiplayer games in single player.
first, is it possible?
i know one can run multiple instances of the game on the same PC, and i've downloaded the modified d2gfx.dll
but i have no clue about how to get two chars in the same game...
can you help please?

First of all, if you simply want to mule items between Singleplayer characters, you're better off using the muling application ATMA. Google it and download it, it will provide an easy and safe way of muling (without messing with game .dll's or multiple installations). If you want two characters in the same SP game with only 1 cd-key, follow these steps:

1) Install Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction
2) Download the replacement D2gfx.dll. I found a download link to this here. The site is in german, but just scroll down the page and download "Modifizierte D2gfx.dll" NOTE: this seems to be a replacement .dll for older versions of the game (1.09 and 1.10). If you want a 1.11 version, download this zipfile (Fileplanet registration required)
3) Go to your Diablo 2 directory and rename you original d2gfx.dll to d2gfx.dll.original
4) Copy-paste the modified DLL to your D2 directory
5) Make a shortcut on your desktop to "game.exe", found in the D2 directory
6) Start D2 using the standard Diablo2.exe, and make a TCP/IP game
7) Alt-Tab out of the game and start your game.exe shortcut. This will launch D2 a second time. Join the TCP/IP game you created on the other instance using the displayed IP
8) Use Alt-Tab to switch between the two D2's

thanx alot!
hope ill manage to get it started
i've tried all this back home, but in 'other multiplayer' tab (d2 menu) both 'join game' and 'create game' are inactive, due to the fact that i miss a TCP/IP connection (no internet back home)
searching google today i found out about MS Loopback Adapter and ill give it a try!

i do have ATMA and im using it for muling
the reason im trying to do this is the Hellforge :)

thanx again for the help!
cheers
