Possibly Devastating News

Post by Unbrow »

I just read an article that made me feel devastated, but then i read the date and saw that it was an article from about a year ago so I'll tell you what it said anyway. The article was about the restructuring of Lucas Arts Studios and how there was a fairly large amount of layoffs blah blah ... so anyway this all leads up to the news. The press release stated the laying off of the team attatched to the early development of kotor 3, but i am not sure if the lay off still stands or if it was just a temporary deal. But as I have witnessed games that were expected have been canceled and then brought back into development (True Fantasy Online) so don't get too worked up about it.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Basically, there's been nothing official announced period (hence, mainly just a bunch of rumors) There's been no announcement of a KOTOR3 development team being assembled. We have heard that Obsidian hasn't been given the greenlight on the project (this is legimitate information). It's possibly, however, that they will not even be the development team involved (possibly Bioware again or LucasArts in-house). As such, we can't even conclude much from that.

However, the game seems likely. The first two were big commercial successes (and critical successes) for LucasArts. Also, check out this interview with Peter Hirschman, vice president of LucasArts product development, that Buck posted a few weeks ago. In it there is a direct reference to LucasArts renewed commitment to creating quality games and, more importantly, its strongly hinted that a KoTOR3 is in the works (or at least that's how I read it). My guess, is that it's very likely the third game is already in development.

I found another article posted on the Lucas Arts forums that you guys can look at.

I believe it partly because BioWare is awesome, but form your own opinions. Sticks and stones and all that.

Considering that the original post of that info was posted two weeks ago, and that it hasn't come to LucasArts, Bioware, or Obisidian's websites yet, I think I can say that it is a fake. I would give it maybe one more week, but if nothing is posted on the major websites by then, we will know it is a fake.

We had a thread about this post last week, as well. It looks to be a fake, in my opinion. Basically, the Bioware rep. never reveals their name, the original poster had no track record or known identity to the board. Likewise, in most cases, these types of big projects are announced through more official channels than random message board posts. I'm also somewhat skeptical about the notion that Bioware would use the Jade Empire engine for KoTOR3. It seems like adapting the existing KoTOR engine would make more sense. Regardless, hopefully we'll hear something more official from a development team or LucasArts soon.

Yeah, basically just watch the LA and the BW websites over the next two weeks. Just keep in mind that the post did say that the website was going to be completely restructured or something like that and it was only going to be BASED on the Jade Empire interface. Also the original poster got it from another forum and that person never told where they got it so i won't say it's fake just yet until some other proof is out there.

Found an interview (Q&A) of Chris Avellone from Obsidian it has only one question about kotor 3 but it may give a hint to something. also i've had a chat with some of the BioWare forum members and they say that BW was quoted saying that they won't do anybody else's stories and won't take the project back you can see that in the off topic forum on the forum part of bioware's website, under the "have you seen this kotor 3" thread on the first page. mind you I was being a bit of a jerk because I don't like being called a n00b since I get enough of that from xbox live, but the person's name is Arang if you want to find it with out seeing my dark side. muwahaha.

It’s not a sequel to any existing title

That hints at the making of Kotor III? That is the only question about Kotor III, and I think he clearly states that there isn't going to be a Kotor III that he knows of. Atleast not one that I have seen him hint at.

Yes but I think that pretty much sums up the question of Obsidian doing the next game. that was the point of my post I thought people would understand that. ;)

I think you might want to change the name of your thread from Possibly Devastating News to Hardly Likely Devastating News. ;)

i read all of ur stuff including the hyperlinks. i still did not see the thing i was hoping to see, HOODS. i know that would be the least of ur worries but dangit(cant say other word) i want the hoods. another thing that would be nice is different species. the planets get boring to do over and over again like Dxun and Onderon i wass not looking forward to do all over again. the planets and maps need to be bigger and have more stuff to do. by the way what is with mercs just carrying jedi robes around. another thing is different lightsaber hilts. and like some1 said on 1 of those hyperlinks i would also like to see a badass sith lord that has a purpose to wanting to rule the galaxy. i would also like more intense faster battles(a la Obi-Wan vs Anakin Skywalker and Yoda vs Darth Sidious). what would be nice is a sith lord with a double ended lightsaber. while im on that, in the middle of the fight with the dak lord of the True Sith assuming u fight him/HER(would be kinda nice to see a woman as a sith lord) there will be a cutscene where u and the dark lord take it to the next step and his/her lightsaber lights up at the other end then he/she has a double. Jedi/Sith should be more difficult if they have a double ended lightsaber. i know i dont use capitals but who cares. during that little cutscene just before the dark lord lights up the other end of the lightsaber he/she take off the hood and reveals themself and ur character recognizes that person and they get in a little word fight. the betrayel should be more than Trayas. this should be some1 u have known all ur life and have fought with during the game. i think certain situations call for more than a party of 3. i know a lot of u want to see T3 and HK but i dont. should be more lightsaber moves and like i said more intense and faster a lot faster. this time NO CHEATS for the computer. i would actually like to get through the game without them but i cant resist. i dunno about some of u but the fights on my comp were laggy. i mean in certain spots a fight would look smooth but most of the time it was laggy and i dont mean like on an online game i just mean it wasnt as smooth as some of those high tech comps. there should also be multiplayer regular and online. until next time im on ill think of more ideas not that they will listen but its nice to imagine.

That was what i titled it because the first article was a real article about Lucas Arts layoffs which included the team working on kotor 3.
