Different Family Heirloom question (spoilerish)

Post by Mourn »

Hi all, long time lurker, but finally registered because this was eatin at me so bad.

I recovered the items before i was even given the quest and it was all well and good. When i talked to the guy that gives it, he started in his spiel about how certain elves would do anything to discredit him. This gave me a bad vibe so i told him i was keeping the item (not for the stats, but because he seemed like he was covering something up). Well, he curses at me and then disappears, so now i can't change my mind and give it him.

Was this a screw-up and if so, how bad? He was acting so suspicious, i just wanted to talk to the other folks first...now i have no choice it seems. And of course i automatically saved when the completed quest popped up, so no going back, unless i want to start completely over...which i don't.

Oh another quick question, what level do you have to be to add a 5th party member. I'm 17-18th and keep getting the "must be a true veteran". Does this mean "Veteran setting" as in beat the game on merc level, or is there a veteran title at a certain level ?

Thanks in advance

I gave him the sword, and then in Act 2 there was a follow-up quest. By keeping the sword, my guess is you won't get that quest. It wasn't a very exciting quest, and I don't even remember what the reward was, so you're not missing much if you don't get it.

My interpretation of the 5th party member is that you'll have to play on the veteran difficulty level.

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Only thing you really gain by giving up the sword is a chant he gives you. he first gives you the chant that if used blows up your whole party, after the sword is in his hands, he tells you the first chant was bad and gives you a second chant to reward you for helping him. the follow up quest is obtainable no matter what choice u make with the sword. the sword sucks anyway though, might as well fill your chant book :D
