Dont forget, the amount you can charge for good stuff also depends a lot on the number of farmers on your realm. PvP realms tend to have a LOT of farmers (Which isn't to say that PvP'ers are all cheap a** ebay gold buying scum bags, just that when you join a PvP realm sometimes you need a little help to catch up to all the level 60's who will otherwise kick your booty around till you just wanna cry)... PvE realms tend to have a little less... And RP'ers don't even know the MEANING of the word "Paying Real Money For World Of Warcraft Gold" as they seek imersion rather then awesome stuff.
More farmers means you'll be looking at getting less and less for each item you collect. It's no good trying to charge 10 gold for Large Glimmering Shards when farmers are out there collecting 20 of them and selling them for 5 gold each. People just wont stand for it in a compeditive market.

I was Diablorised once. I got better.
so can you make potions without alchemy?
No you can't.
OMG Yeltsu you are the luckiest o be on that server! How the hell do ppl have enough money to speng 8g on a lvl 20-30 herb like Kingsblood? I'm happy if I can sell a stack of 20 for 1g, but I usually don't dare to ask for more than 50s...
Even Wild Steelbloom, Swiftthistle (!), Dreamfoil, Plaguebloom don't sell these days on Sylvanas... I don't know why, but when I browse for Sungrass or Mountain Silversage I don't find any either, nor can I sell anything I harvest...
Bought an Arcane Crystal for 20g, and sold the Arcanite Bar I created from it for 20,75g (AH chipped off 1g for some obscure reason, so I recieved 19,81g in the end), wasn't a good deal was it? For some reason Alchemy sucks these days, I don't know why
So, that "STAY AWAY FROM THE AH" advice seems to be reasonable
now i'm getting insecure with everything
so skinning and mining... skinning good until you can mine thorium and truesilver...?
and herbalism not as profitable as yeltsu says? atleast not on other servers?? damn this is getting hard....
First concern: take what you LIKE. You'll hate Herbalism if you don't have the patience for it.
Second concern: take what makes the most money. That's definitely not Enchanting - don't even think of taking that before you buy your mount.
Two gathering skills are profitable, I recommend that until you get 90g and then pick a trade profession you like.
Actually, I did Herbs/Alchemy and made enough money of those - got 98g at lvl 38, but Alchemy didn't help much, it was mainly the herbs I sold.
yeah, on a lucky day!
Last weekedn the crystal was 25g and I couldn't sell the bar for 23 Crazy times.
save up untill you have 5 bars or so, and then you put them all out seperatly (maybe even with different characters) The trick is to get the market to work for you. You might even work up a deal with some other alcs, to try to get the prices up

This is my signature.
Actually - personally I found the market better if you only place one and not for instance 5 a day.
When I played, I sold potions. I could flood the market because I harvested many of the herbs, but when I did I sold for a lower price then normal.
The reason is naturally that if you place more of the same items on the auction, you'll find your items are compeeting with each other for the customers, and thus if one item is in demand then they'll go to the next item - so if putting 5x1 aracite bars on the market it is like 5 people selling 1. Simple economics

Lol, exactly And no one is likely to buy 5 bars at once (5x25=152g, lol, even 60s don't have that much money to spare!)
Anyway, I can't buy more than one crystal at once either, so I auction one bar every second day. Selling the transmute seems to bring more profit (5g any day) so far but I'll see.
What I meant was that if others see that there are 5 bars at the same price (this is why putting them out with different characters might help, as it seems like the market is going up, not just one person) then they might also put their bars out for the same price
When ever I placed stuff on the Auction House, I undercut everybody elses prices.
So had I seen a number of people somebody selling item X for Y amount of money, I'd do Y-10% or something instead.
So I'd still say it is better to slowly add to the market, like 5 days with 1 bar each instead of placeing 5 bars on th AH in 1 day.
By placing more items on the AH in one day each item will compeete with the others you have placed for the customers money (even if placed with multiple characters), and with other normal sellers.

Yes, most people try to undercut, but it would be better for everybody if there would be a nice steady price on items.
For example, to get gold I farm essences of water. Those sell for 7g a piece and they almost never expire from AH. Many people are doing this, but the nice thing is that the prices have stayed up and around 7g all the time. That's what the point was with my 5-bars-at-once scheme, to get a level arcanite bar price.

Yeah, you're right, it would be the best if I could sell Arcanite for 25g any day
The problem is, I can only transmute once in two days so collecting 5 bars and put them on AH for the same price would take a while.... Anyway, it might be worth to save them all til the end of month and see how this suggestion works in practice
