Voice acting
...or lack of same. Has anybody else decided to turn off the voices, because they sound like they were done by programmers?

What game have you played recently where they sounded so much like Amateur Week at the local high school? The last I can recall that was that bad (actually worse) was the original Etherlords, and there it was the programmers doing the voice acting. There were actual instances in the game where they started laughing at their own scripts. Etherlords2 was given to decent professionals. -But barring that, I can't recall anything so likely to break the mood of this game that is otherwise so well-delineated.

You clearly haven't been playing the right games, fable ... take "Restricted Area" and "Metalheart: Replicants Rampage" for a spin, then return to bask in the high-quality glory of Dungeon Siege II!!!
I was in the midst of Metalheart when I started DSII ... my thoughts as I was playing that were the same as RA - at least hire people who speak English as a *second* language?!?!

LOL, Mike!
I stand corrected. I'm not an action or shooter player, so it looks like I've missed out--in one sense of the word.
I suspect I'll have to qualify my statement, then, by saying it's the worst voice acting I've heard for years in an RPG.

Oh, I didn't start with the terrible stuff in the FPS games I've played lately (Pariah and Postal 2: Apocalypse Weekend come to mind) ...
Restricted Area is a 'action-RPG' that could best be described as 'Diablo II meets Fallout meets tedium ..."
Metalheart is a true Fallout clone - action-point based combat system, post-apoc, the whole thing - oh, except for anything fun or charming or enjoyable ...

On the original Etherlords, you can hear the voice actors start to giggle and lose control as they read the dialog. I can't give you exact lines, because I don't have the game running at this point. But in any case, I can hardly return it, especially since I got my copy when I reviewed it for a magazine.
Of course, there's nothing quite so bad in DS2, but still, the voices are very amateurish, IMO. Where did I give the impression I would return the game because of this?
