A few noob questions

Post by CM »

1. How do you change that neck breaking top down view? I want something that shows me what is at a distance....not just the area around me? How can i change that?

2. I am on an RPPVP server. But there is no RP to speak off in the first area. I am a Human Paladin. So it might be that they are all starting out thus no rp whatsoever. But does it increase later on?

3. And how do i switch my Paladin from the warhammer to a sword? When can i make that change?

1) Well - I can only remember that you can scroll quite a distance out. If you check the video settings, I recall there being a setting where you can change the max distance on a view (I had it all the way to the max at times).
Other then this setting, I never fiddle around much with camerarview, so I don't know if it is more custimizable.

2) I doubt it. RP in a MMOG is rather limited to speak and avoiding talking about out-of-game stuff.... and in WOW I even more doubt it. MMOGs of WOWs type rarely attracts the (more hardcore) RPers which was excatly why I didn't choose a RP server when I played.

3) You buy weaponskills (just like you buy every other skill in the game) - the Swordskill is bought at Stormwind (unless they changed the location), near the first x-road after the entrance. But I belive you can ask a guard for a weapontrainer location.

2. I found that RP-ing (im on a normal RP server) isnt done by anyone.
But atleast people dont look at you weird when you do RP.
And over time you will get to learn more and more people, maybe even join a guild. You have lot's of people to choose from.

Thanks guys. A few more questions:

1. How do you chat in general chat - i can't figure that out or any of the other chat channels?

2. What exactly is resting other than sitting down? Do i have to do anything special for that?

/1 for general chat.

You have online resting, then you will regenrate a little, but eating and drinking will speed this up (always have a friendly mage, so you can get some food and water, or suply some yourself)

Offline resting, is when you logout in a major city or inn. You will get a rested bonus to your experience (double experience from combat) for a while, depending on howlong you where logged out.

Well that is great to hear....i think :p

Ok got another problem. Inside buildings and mines and stuff....i can't zoom out to get a better view. I can basically see like 3 inches on my screen. If they were all PCs i could see only like 7 PCs on my screen surrounding me. Any clue how to fix that. Basically once i am inside, it zooms on my head, and i remember in the beta that was not the case. That i could actually see the majority of the room and not just my PC.

You can change how far the camera will follow behind you in the settings somewhere IIRC.
Can't test it at the moment.
And you can zoom with the mouseweel. But i assume you already figured that out.

I'm not an alliance player (Horde all the way for me), so i'm not familiar with the paladin myself.

You can get a mount at level40.
Paladin's and warlocks get their own special mounts from a quest, that will start when you reach level40.
Other classes need to buy the mount of their race, or of another race if they are able to reach excalted reputation with that race (this is very very hard and time consuming).
Normal mounts cost 100gold, epicmounts cost1000gold. And you need to train a riding skill.

Paladin's cant have combat pets, but they can have normal pet's (don't do anything, but just look funny).
Non-combat pets can be bought, found, and created with certain professions (only i know of is engineering, and only at high level)
Combat pet's are only available to hunters (they tame an animal, and train it, and warlocks (they summon a demon).

For an item guide i recommand Thottbot

Great thanks. Now what exactly are battlegrounds and contested territories. Well i know what contested territories are. What are battlegrounds? Can people attack a contested territory and make it their own? Can battle grounds be won and kept as territory and made alliance or horde safe areas?

For the battlegrounds i recommand taking a look here.

They are places where alliance and horde do battle in a more unrealistic way (capture the flag etc).
By winning you earn honor, and reputation, that can be used to gain items and buffs. But after your side has won or lost, the whole things starts again from the beginning. No real victory to be gained.

Swords and Maces: you are proficient with a certain kind of weapon by default (press K to see your skills), but you can learn to use other weapons at the weapon trainer (ask a guard to point you to his location). This takes some money and most weapons can be learnt at lvl 10 or so. Above that you should be able to learn any kind of weapon your class can use. If a weapon master don't train that weapon, ask him what other masters can teach you and he will send you to another one.

So I have another question about weapons proficiencies: I just maxxed out my dagger skill at 75. Since the other skills max out at 300, with training, I'm assuming the weapons skills do as well. The weapon master in Darnassus will train me in other weapons, but I can't find further training in daggers. Am I wrong about this one? If not, could anyone suggest a place I could train in the greater Darnassus area? Thanks

You can train your weapons skill higher as you go up in level.
