KOTOR III Rumor News Thread

NEWS ALERT!!

ANOTHER KOTOR RUMOUR/HOPE LURKING ON IGN

POSTED 26th September 2005 (AEST)

Hello Ladies and Gents

Guess what I found while browsing the obisidian fourms

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mailbag 08.30.05

Nothing more than the greatest bundle of all time.

Hoping

Q.I see that Bioware is recruiting for some new games, which really kinda bums me out. I was hoping for a Knights of the Old Republic 3. With the power of the new Xbox, and maybe a story set in the expanded universe after the movies (like perhaps the Thrawn trilogy) they probably could have easily had the missing killer app in the launch lineup and made a fortune. Any idea if they'll ever make another one?

I believe (think) this is the answer all you KOTOR fans have been waiting for? see below for the answer by an IGN offical -Bastila Shan

A.Since another mailbag junkie had recently asked that question and you have bought it up again, I just happen to have a vague but positive answer for you. I spoke with LucasArts the other day and the spokesperson said that they see the series as a franchise, an ongoing franchise, which means that yes, they certainly will make another game. But don't count on BioWare making that game. Most likely, the developer of KOTOR: The Sith Lords will hand the third one, which I am 99% sure will be on Xbox 360. Unless LucasArts decides to take the series to the Xbox next year…which I somehow doubt. I wish I knew more about next year's Xbox lineup, but nobody will say anything. My theory is that developers will make a few, non-important games on the Xbox next year, but the bulk of their money and the important franchises will head to Xbox 360.

Answered by a guy named --Douglass

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found another KOTOR III possibility! well just take this one for the moment as a rumour. This linkie is at least some good news for a possible KOTOR III.(I ain't saying KOTOR III is offical-just a might)

head here to read for yourself my lovely dear friends:

Source (below) for the above possible news!

http://xbox.ign.com/mail/2005-08-30.html

I will keep a look out for more KOTOR III rumours and hopes.

Also peoples I would suggest if you would like to spot for some KOTOR III hopes for yourself may I suggest you head here:

http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php ... 215&st=690

but in the mean time I will keep searching any where I can for more "hopeful" KOTOR III news.

So ... you basically found nothing?
I doubt there are anybody whom doesn't expect a 3rd installment, especially after how the second one ended/unfolded.
But until something official is released, then rumors from unknown people on random sites are just ... well - not really news.

@Bastila: I deleted your "mistake" thread for you. FYI, you can always PM either myself or another moderator and request assistance, or simply add a comment like "to any moderator, please delete this". :)

@Xandax: Hey I know we were all expecting there to be another KOTOR game but this is reassuring at least, as we all know there has been a fair amount of eagerly anticipated sequels that never surfaced.
Thanks for the info Bastila.

What is reasuring? - That some (unknown) guy on xbox.ign states that he thinks there'll be a SW:KOTOR3? Or that there is a fandriven discussion thread in the obsidian forum ala this forums threads?

I spoke with LucasArts the other day and the spokesperson said that they see the series as a franchise, an ongoing franchise,
No names, no dates, no nothing.
Yes - and I spoke to a martian the other day, and he said ....

I see nothing reasuring, other then the fact that KOTOR-series was relative large hits and thus it would be economical stupid to not produce a third installment, which basically is common knowlegde.

So you dont have a source, you dont have a link other than that to an Obsidian forum, and you dont know this person.

Also, he said he got it in his inbox. the last time I checked, Obsidian, LucasArts, and Bioware dont have a mass email list that I know of, other than the normal news that they have on the websites. I have checked.

So unless he can verify himself in some way as a rep of one of the above companies, I hope you dont mind if I dont get my hopes up. they havent started advertising it yet. I have a feeloing this means were are going to be waiting another year...

Or more, as there were rumours about the other two games long before they were released that could be verified, from what I remember. I knew about the first KotOR sionce news came out in 2001 of the project team beginning production.

I wont be surprised if it doesnt come out until 2007 or 2008, IMHO.

ign has had a good history with having correct info on their news pages so even if you find the lack of names discouraging, just don't sweat it. no doubt though that the guy could have been more helpful than that.

Again - this:
I spoke with LucasArts the other day and the spokesperson said that they see the series as a franchise, an ongoing franchise, which means that yes, they certainly will make another game.
Is not information. It is just stating what 99% of people already "know". Information would be that the game is in production, or a developer is being found or something. Some random person at ign, talked to some unknown person at lucasart - who said .... well nothing.

Okay so its not the greatest info there is but if you read through most of ign's news posts they tend to be correct and repetitive. I'm not saying this isn't something i've heard before but hearing it from ign makes me feel better about it. just give it a chance. ;)

So *they* have been correct before when they said a game was likely to be developed which everybody else also thought would be developed? :D
I'm sure they really nailed that one.

There is no substance in that paragraf ... at all.
If it had said that the "spokesperson" mentioned they were trying to find developers or something - then it would have been news (fabricated or not would then be the question), but this: writing nothing and posting it as "answers" is just.... well, you get my drift.

yeah i guess you're right about it lacking substance and now that i look at the paragraph again the ign mail guy didn't really say much about anything. He kinda just compressed a bunch of stuff that everybody already knew without formal anouncements

Can we just not post anymore rumors pleeeeeeeeeeeeease. We already know all the rumors and we already know like Xandax said it would be stupid not to make a 3rd. Just give them time. Do u want the 3rd to come out crappy like the end of the 2nd (no offense to Obsidian).

I dont want anything else about rumors. If u can find something that is CONFIRMING that its coming very soon with facts to support it then ill will be glad to listen and read.

@Darth Moudi: I personally see nothing destructive about posting rumors circulating amongst the gaming community, particularly when the information is identified as "rumor." No sort of ethics are violated when the information is clearly identified as "rumor" in the thread title (such as this one). While I don't pay much attention to rumors myself, there's no harm done. As you've clearly voiced your displeasure concerning rumors, I suggest you avoid reading threads with "rumor" in the title. :)

Unfortunately, rumors, by nature, and by defintion, have not been develpoed by a definite source in any one location, ever. This is why the are rumours.

The above wasn't really a rumour, even if it didnt have a source. It was more along the lines of stating the obvious...

In any case, just search any of the news threads in the forum. Some of them have news condeming KotOR 3. Some of them have news commending it's creation. truly, the mix of possible truth and part lies is amusing to me... a sign that I have perhaps been twisted too far. ;)

For rumours, just search any major search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, MSNSearch, madcow, dogpile... ect, ect, to get them. I am sure you will find them in large amounts. Personally, I let other people find it, as I am too lazy to find anything on my own. :p

From what I have hjeard, the majority of recent rumours have been based around the making of the game for next year, or that they have been working on it, or that it will be released soon. Some I find so overzealous they are easy to see through; Some I can never tell. It is pretty much a fact, that now with the Xbox 360, that KotOR 3 will come out for it, and for whatever the current PC standards are.

As stated above, I do not believe that you will be having this game anytime soon. We are nearing the point where they start to advertise on the news. Almost all major games have begun leaking to the general public. It does not mean that it won't be made. Consider the fact of how much money they have been making off the series, it would be a poor idea not to. Not only would it put a bad face on all comapnies involved, for not producing a game wanted by the masses, but they would also loose a wackload of money. not exactly the best decision for any company to make, IMO.

Hopefully someone will pop up with some information for this thread... and relatively soon too... I would rather not see so many threads about this go to the second page. Luckily, I am sure another will come around... they seem to pop up just long enough for the last one to have been forgotten... :)

"LucasArts has laid off a small team attached to the early stages of development on Knights of the Old Republic 3, according to a report on GameSpot, as part of what the Californian firm has described as "a major restructuring" of its development studio.

The developer confirmed that as a result of the restructuring effort, "31 people from the development studio were laid off as the company will be concentrating on fewer titles." Some reports suggest that all but one of the developer's internal projects have been canned.

LucasArts has yet to confirm that, although many of its key games are now in the hands of external firms - such as the new Star Wars Episode III title, which is being composed by Indiana Jones And The Emperor's Tomb developer The Collective.

Predictably, the company was unwilling to focus on the issue in any detail. Its Friday statement was actually built around the appointment of a new vice president of product development - Peter Hirschmann, a two-year veteran at the company and former architect of EA's Medal of Honor series.

However, this isn't the first time in recent months that LucasArts has been in trouble. Back in April the company laid off 29 staff, and in mid July a leaked memo allegedly from president Jim Ward announced to staff that there would be no bonuses for the current year."
