Professions and Talents....
Right now I've had about 10 characters none over lvl 15, but now I've settled on a few: Dwarf Hunter, Night Elf Rogue (I'd do a Troll but can't stand the Jamaican accent), Tauren Shaman, and I'm probably gonna start up a Human or Undead Mage just because having a Dwarf and Gnome character would get a little redundant. I've settled on Skinning/Leatherwork for the Rogue and Herbalism/Alchemy for the Shaman, but I can't decide for the Hunter. I'm thinking about Engineering for the gun mods, goggles, bombs and other nifty items to be paired with Mining for resources. I'm just curious as to what you think is a good direction to go for such a character.
On a related note which talent tree is most effective to focus on, or is it better to evenly distribute. I'd love to do trial and error but it can be very annoying and costly. For reference I plan on soloing almost exclusively and little to no PvP.

ok. for proffesions. skinning and LW is goodfor rogue, and so is alch/herb is good for shammy (especially tauren, since they get +15 herbalism). i love engineering. coolest proffesion ever. the downside is that only engineers can use the (most) items you make, so people dont buy it, thus little money. mining make good profit though
talents: i have no idea for those classes, but i do reccomend you to use a build. its very important to have a good build if you want a good character!
just use google and find builds for different classes
Tailoring/enchanting is good, you can feed yourself the items you need. Cooking and first aid is good to pick up too. Just don't make bandages when you need to use that cloth to upgrade your tailoring.
yes indeed. but only take this with the mage, not other characters. since shaman, hunter and rogue all can use leather (shammy and hunter can use mail at lvl 40 as well), they have no use for tailoring other than bags. so then LW is better!

Well, I've played the game quite alot, and what i've found is that it is better to focus on one character at a time. By doing this you'll most probably level up faster, learn more of the game mechanincs (not much to learn below level 40) and you will probably learn to play that character better, since you will get the time to know all your skills, and you will get in more situations where you will need to use them.
Regarding the hunter, since you are playing a dwarf I'd reccomend you to go for engineering, this is because as a dwarf you get a +5 to gun skill, meaning that at lvl 10, you'll have the gunskill of a lvl 11, and on 60 you'll have the gunskill of a lvl 61. Therefor I'd reccomend you to go with guns. with engineering you can make amongst other things bullets and guns. this is a very nice feat, because as a hunter, nothing is worse than running out of ammo ages away from a vendor.
When it comes to talent points, I'd reccomend going down the BM (beast mastery) talent tree, thus imporoving your pet. A BM specced pet can even be used as an offtank in emergencies in the endgame instances. However, Aimed shot in the Marksmanship tree is a very good skill, encreasing ranged damage by 75 on rank one, and 600 at the highest rank. Aimed shot only requiers 11 skillpoints in Marksmanship, so it is also possible to get that, as well as going all the way down on the BM tree.
An important part of the hunter (especially a BM one) is the pet. A very good site for info about pets are http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/ where you can dig up all the information about pets you could ever want. be sure to check out the Top Choice: 50 Great Pets section, as this has many good tips for each level. You can have 3 pets at any given time, two in the stables, and one with you (you can only changes pets at a stable master) however, in order to learn new skills for your pet, you have to tame the creature that possess that skill. therefore, it is only reccomended to have 2 pets (ill get back to which type) and an open spot for taming pets only for their skills.
So you'll want two pets. You'll want a tank pet (a pet that can take alot of damage, and keep aggro away from you so that you can fire away) and you want a high-dps pet (dps=damage per second) all the info about the different types of pets can be found on the site i posted above. I'll just do a quick run through them. Tank pets are generally Bears, Gorillas, turtles, crabs and boars. Damage pets are cats, owls, bats, wolfs.
Personally I like boars, There is a good article about why they are so good on that site. Basically boars are good for everything.. they have good armorrating, they have high HP, decent damage, and of course they look and sound great!
Now in the most recent patch boars have also learned Charge, which is a very good skill. you'll find most boars at the lower levels, i think the highest level ones are around lvl 40 or so. All boars have the same stats. But many look different, and some have very unique appearances .. Like the boar I have

However, in the end it's all up to you, but I must warn you, hunter is dangerously fun
And at lvl 10-29 you should really try out PvP, you'll be the master of the battlefield, hunters are so powerful there once you get aimed shot (can be aquired at lvl 20)

I took your advice of going with one character at a time and went back to my Tauren Shaman. I like to solo PvE as much as possible and I think that's the best character for it. I found pet characters to be too much of a hassle (hunters having to appease pets and warlocks having to deal with soul shards), tanks to be too dull and not very versatile (they're great at what they do, it's just not my style), and casters aren't tough enough for extended periods of soloing (I'd love to run a Druid but I'm either doing something terribly wrong or they're just not tough enough, my Mage just gets smacked around, and I don't have the guts to try a Preist yet). So right now I'm going to stick to my Shaman and maybe my Night Elf Rogue which I started not too long ago because they're the best suited to my gameplay style. Thanks for all the input. If you have any tips for Shamans and/or Rogues I'm all ears. My Shaman has Herbology, Alchemy, and First Aid; and the Rogue has Skinning, Leatherwork, and First Aid is next.

Ahh, sorry, I don't know shaman very well. only ever played one to lvl 28, and i haven't played that char for several months. My bro plays one though, and what he told me was to at least in Enchantment to go like this:
Shield Specialization rank 5/5
Improved Stoneskin Totem rank 0/3
Thundering Strikes rank 5/5
Improved Ghost Wolf rank 2/2
Improved Lightning Shield rank 0/3
Improved Strength of Earth Totem rank 0/3
Two-Handed Axes and Maces rank 1/1
Anticipation rank 5/5
Flurry rank 5/5
Improved Rockbiter Weapon rank 0/2
Improved Flametongue Weapon rank 0/2
Parry rank 1/1
Improved Frostbrand Weapon rank 0/2
Improved Windfury Weapon rank 2/2
The remaining points he told me to spend inrestoration, with the aim of getting Nature's Swiftness
the classes I can help with are Mainly paladin, (main char) mage and hunter (alts)

Well I went back to the calculator and revamped my build slightly (I just turned lvl 18 so I have some room for changes).

Lately I've come to appreciate the power of Fire Totems so I've made appropriate changes. I'm still contemplating whether to go with Flurry or Anticipation. My basic strategy as of now is have Lightning Shield and Rockbiter Weapon active all the time, 1-2 Lightning Bolts as a pull, drop Searing Totem, followed by Flame Shock and Stoneskin Totem(if neccessary), and hack away. For multiples Searing Totem gets substituted by Fire Nova Totem(s).
And if you could give me any pointers on Mages I'd greatly appreciate it because it was smooth sailing until Goldshire, now I'm getting my head handed to me on my own staff. It doesn't help that money's real tight for some strange reason.

So then I could put the two points from Imp Rockbiter into Imp Magma Totem and swap Anticipation for Flurry. Sounds good to me. Unless there's a better option?

Yeah, it's decent, but do you really want all those imp totems and the imp lightning shield? cause they take alot of points yet they don't really add that much.. I played around with the talet calculator, and got this:
Elemental Talents - 16 points
Concussion rank 5/5
Improved Stoneclaw Totem rank 0/5
Convection rank 5/5
Elemental Focus rank 1/1
Reverberation rank 5/5
Enhancement Talents - 30 points
Ancestral Knowledge rank 5/5
Thundering Strikes rank 5/5
Improved Ghost Wolf rank 2/2
Two-Handed Axes and Maces rank 1/1
Anticipation rank 5/5
Flurry rank 5/5
Parry rank 1/1
Improved Windfury Weapon rank 2/2
Toughness rank 4/5
Restoration Talents - 5 points
Improved Healing Wave rank 5/5
I think this could work, you get the melee offence skills you need, and also good defensive skills. Not so much in healing, but 0.5 sec less on a heal can be a life saver. When it comes to the offencive caster abilities I only focues on your shocks, because they are a very potent part of the shaman's arsenal. If you have Earthshock on a 5 sec cooldown, that means any casters you hit will only have 3 seconds to cast a new spell, and many spells take almost that amount of time so it is a very good skill to invest in. Elemental focus is also a great skill to invest in. 10% chance of a clearcast is great!
You'll notice that I removed all the imp totems talents, because I don't think they really add that much.

WARNING THIS IS MY OPINION AND THE IDEAS FROM CLOSE FREINDS IN THE GAME THIS IS YOUR WARNING THAT THIS POST IS LONG AND IS JUST ONE BIG RUN ON SENTENCE IF YOU DONT WISH TO READ IT OR DONT WISH TO PUT UP WITH POOR GRAMMAR BAD SPELLING THEN READ NOT FURTHER THIS POST IS INTENDED FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO LEVEL A ROGUE TO LEVEL 55 FAST thank you and sorry for the caps
ok i am so very very very happy that i get to tell you about rogues i played a rogue for 30 played days only got him to level 48 due to the fact one that i liked that pvp bracket and two my main focus for my rogue who was also my main was to help and train the new players and people level 50 and lower in how our guild worked sooo, i can help you up to that level and give some decent ideas on how to work a rouge after 48 but enough aboout me lets get down to buisness ((note you guys may or may not care but after alot of respecs and trial and error i found the best builds for pvp and pve))
a little side note a combat build dosnt become effective really untill you hit level 32 to 34 so id go subtley untill then dosnt matter where you put your talents if your willing to respec at 34 to go combat MoD (master of deception) is a plus even with combat build and since the first respec is a gold you can get a gold easy in strangle thorn vale selling grey and white items to vendor briskly whiskers for a stack of 10 sell for 75 or 78 silver and are found on cats in STV by the time you get 10 whiskers youll have enough other crap to easily get 3 gold
since you want to go pve i think thats what the OP said id recomend if you just hit 10 id go with combat build up untill level 55 (this is just my opinion since your the one playing feel free to mess around with these builds just giveing you an idea) ((im useing blizzards talent caculator since i cant get in game to look at my rogue and since i keep him at 48 i use the pvp build not the leveling build))
fill up sinister strike
fill up reflexes these are both teir 1 talents
now alot of people are going to disagree with me but dont worry bout putting anything in gouge
next fill up precision cause it leads to duel weild spec which is a must
next fill up deflection if you see the first attack talent point you get is reposite i personally forget to use it most of the time but thats my mistake use it 150% weapon damage and 6 sec disarm after parrying an apponents attacks is a good idea
now the next part comes down to prefrence you can a either go daggers or b go swords I DO NOT RECOMMEND MACES NO MATTER WHAT (sorry for the yelling but i dont want you to miss that). now the plus side with daggers is speed a combat rogue at level 40 is a fast killer and daggers make him faster so if you go dagger spec youll be putting out more damage 5% more crit damage if you fill it up, next is swords also a good choice due to the fact that slower weapons hit harder and have a better chance to hit so id get a main handed sword (if you go swords) at a speed of 2.10 to 2.30 and an offhand sword for 1.50 to 2.30 plenty of good swords fall into that area after level 31 thats when the green item swords get good and the good thing about sword spec is you get a 5% chance to get an extra attack when fighting which is good so really daggers or swords its up to you i used both but went swords after level 37
oh almost for got fill up sprint and evasion the ability to dodge and run away is a very good thing a very very good thing why evasion one since you wont be pvping against warriors you wont have to worry about overpower since all youll be fighting is mobs and fighting them very well
next depending on what spec you went youll now be level 42 the next talent to put in your tree is blade furry i can not stress how important blade furry is in getting you out of trouble this ability gives you a 20% attack speed boost for 15 seconds and also attacks another target guarenteed carefull with that though if your close to another target that you dont want to fight dont hit blade fury its to be used in case your about to die or get ganged up on 2 or 3 mobs if you get attacked by 4 mobs at this level i recommend hitting sprint and getting out of there better to run and live then die and get armor points hurt its easy at level 43 to take on three mobs with combat build you hit blade furry even at full health and take out one foe hitting sinister strike which then hits the second foe with sinister strike along with hitting both foes with your regular attacks so by the time you kill your first foe the other one can be dead or is near death and is easy to finish off now if your fighting foes your level or 1 higher your safe since 3 foes 1 level higher then you or lower are easy to manage with blade furry just be care full though energy runs out fast but that will be solved later
ok right now your at level 43 and you just put your talents in blade furry now fill up agression very important to fill that up since it gives you a 3% chance to get a crit strike with eviserate and sinister strike your two main attacks in combat build after filling that up you should be level 46 (or so the talent caculator tells me)
now the next talent to put in is adrenaline rush now this combined with sword or dagger spec combined with blade furry can get you out of any fight with a mob of level 4 higher level then you or lower or 2 mobs of level 3 higher then you or lower or 3 mobs of level 2 higher a level then you you get the point the closer the are to your level or are below your level the more of them you can take on and live though i wouldnt take on any 5 or more mobs that are green to you unless you got this technique of how to use this right which ill go over in a few but basicly the point im trying to make is after you get adrenaline rush your pretty much done with putting your talents in places till you hit the high end instances so put the rest of your talents where you want youll either have not respeced by now or done it once so by the time your level 55 where youll need to respec for the first or second time itll either cost your 1 gold for the first time or 5 gold for the second time but at level 55 5 gold is easy to get just ask your freinds where to farm stuff im not familiar with level 55 areas but i hear the plague lands are good and that a rogue speced this way can easily take on an elite one on one and live (this is what i heard from my freinds so be carefull i havent proven this myself)
ok getting off track sorry lets see like i said after you put the talents in those spots your set and can put the talents in other areas where you want i recomend assasination for extra damage primarily improved eviserate then put the rest up till level 55 in MoD master of deception
now that you know where i stand on leveling talents ill tell you how i fight with this build now you all are going to either laugh or say he wont live if he does that and or why didnt he say put talents in the stun abilitys like kick mace and why did he pass up gouge and backstab? i got very good reasons for it now listen good YOU WONT NEED THEM AFTER LEVEL 40. omg heresy burn this fool ghostedwolf at the stake. no seriously you wont need them why itll one waste energy that you can use for sinister strike and evisterate but ghostedwolf if he hits ad rush he has all the energy he needs.. true but its only for a short time and has a cool down of 6 minutes not long but long enough if you use it when you dont need to
now how i do it is i walk up to the mob or mobs if im fighting two mobs my level i wont need blade furry or eviserate due to that fact i can take a hit and im doing so much damage the first critters dead before they both have me at 3/4ths health i then go to the next critter and smack him around with sinister strike and eviserate by that time depending on your luck and if you maxed out your weapons skill you should be either right at half health but most likely youll be just below 3/4ths this is of course after you have aggression and blade furry (though you wont need bladefurry just yet)
instances when you need to use blade furry and ad rush
one such instance (and i dont mean instances as in deadmines) is if you are at half health from fighting a mob four levels above you and that mob thats four levels above you is still alive and another mob say 1 level above you or lower aggros hit ad rush blade furry evasion and start useing sinsiter strike and eviserate youll find that youll be haveing to wait for sinister strike to recharge since your energy will recharge at a 100% with ad rush but thats not a problem youll live most likely unless you miss alot which may happen so keep you weapon skills up to par
another instance is if 3 or more mobs aggro on you and you then do the same thing ad rush blade furry and evasion this will get you out of alot of sticky situations
another instance is if your bored as hell and you want to see how fast you can kill van cleef and clear deadmines with stealth itll take you 20 minutes without stealth and you kill everything tack on another 5 minutes for killing and looting and only loot the green and better items even the bops why you ask cause a deadmine run solo at level 47 or so can get you and easy 4 gold a trip true theres other places to farm for items but thats a easy 4 gold just bring two health potions and food just in case
so basicly after level forty the only attacks youll be useing is sinister strike and eviserate (reposite if you remember it but not nessary since youll still kill if not faster just as fast)
now you may be asking your self if i forgot about stealth after level 34 you wont need stealth to open a attack you can if you want but its not nessary
ok i am so very very very happy that i get to tell you about rogues i played a rogue for 30 played days only got him to level 48 due to the fact one that i liked that pvp bracket and two my main focus for my rogue who was also my main was to help and train the new players and people level 50 and lower in how our guild worked sooo, i can help you up to that level and give some decent ideas on how to work a rouge after 48 but enough aboout me lets get down to buisness ((note you guys may or may not care but after alot of respecs and trial and error i found the best builds for pvp and pve))
a little side note a combat build dosnt become effective really untill you hit level 32 to 34 so id go subtley untill then dosnt matter where you put your talents if your willing to respec at 34 to go combat MoD (master of deception) is a plus even with combat build and since the first respec is a gold you can get a gold easy in strangle thorn vale selling grey and white items to vendor briskly whiskers for a stack of 10 sell for 75 or 78 silver and are found on cats in STV by the time you get 10 whiskers youll have enough other crap to easily get 3 gold
since you want to go pve i think thats what the OP said id recomend if you just hit 10 id go with combat build up untill level 55 (this is just my opinion since your the one playing feel free to mess around with these builds just giveing you an idea) ((im useing blizzards talent caculator since i cant get in game to look at my rogue and since i keep him at 48 i use the pvp build not the leveling build))
fill up sinister strike
fill up reflexes these are both teir 1 talents
now alot of people are going to disagree with me but dont worry bout putting anything in gouge
next fill up precision cause it leads to duel weild spec which is a must
next fill up deflection if you see the first attack talent point you get is reposite i personally forget to use it most of the time but thats my mistake use it 150% weapon damage and 6 sec disarm after parrying an apponents attacks is a good idea
now the next part comes down to prefrence you can a either go daggers or b go swords I DO NOT RECOMMEND MACES NO MATTER WHAT (sorry for the yelling but i dont want you to miss that). now the plus side with daggers is speed a combat rogue at level 40 is a fast killer and daggers make him faster so if you go dagger spec youll be putting out more damage 5% more crit damage if you fill it up, next is swords also a good choice due to the fact that slower weapons hit harder and have a better chance to hit so id get a main handed sword (if you go swords) at a speed of 2.10 to 2.30 and an offhand sword for 1.50 to 2.30 plenty of good swords fall into that area after level 31 thats when the green item swords get good and the good thing about sword spec is you get a 5% chance to get an extra attack when fighting which is good so really daggers or swords its up to you i used both but went swords after level 37
oh almost for got fill up sprint and evasion the ability to dodge and run away is a very good thing a very very good thing why evasion one since you wont be pvping against warriors you wont have to worry about overpower since all youll be fighting is mobs and fighting them very well
next depending on what spec you went youll now be level 42 the next talent to put in your tree is blade furry i can not stress how important blade furry is in getting you out of trouble this ability gives you a 20% attack speed boost for 15 seconds and also attacks another target guarenteed carefull with that though if your close to another target that you dont want to fight dont hit blade fury its to be used in case your about to die or get ganged up on 2 or 3 mobs if you get attacked by 4 mobs at this level i recommend hitting sprint and getting out of there better to run and live then die and get armor points hurt its easy at level 43 to take on three mobs with combat build you hit blade furry even at full health and take out one foe hitting sinister strike which then hits the second foe with sinister strike along with hitting both foes with your regular attacks so by the time you kill your first foe the other one can be dead or is near death and is easy to finish off now if your fighting foes your level or 1 higher your safe since 3 foes 1 level higher then you or lower are easy to manage with blade furry just be care full though energy runs out fast but that will be solved later
ok right now your at level 43 and you just put your talents in blade furry now fill up agression very important to fill that up since it gives you a 3% chance to get a crit strike with eviserate and sinister strike your two main attacks in combat build after filling that up you should be level 46 (or so the talent caculator tells me)
now the next talent to put in is adrenaline rush now this combined with sword or dagger spec combined with blade furry can get you out of any fight with a mob of level 4 higher level then you or lower or 2 mobs of level 3 higher then you or lower or 3 mobs of level 2 higher a level then you you get the point the closer the are to your level or are below your level the more of them you can take on and live though i wouldnt take on any 5 or more mobs that are green to you unless you got this technique of how to use this right which ill go over in a few but basicly the point im trying to make is after you get adrenaline rush your pretty much done with putting your talents in places till you hit the high end instances so put the rest of your talents where you want youll either have not respeced by now or done it once so by the time your level 55 where youll need to respec for the first or second time itll either cost your 1 gold for the first time or 5 gold for the second time but at level 55 5 gold is easy to get just ask your freinds where to farm stuff im not familiar with level 55 areas but i hear the plague lands are good and that a rogue speced this way can easily take on an elite one on one and live (this is what i heard from my freinds so be carefull i havent proven this myself)
ok getting off track sorry lets see like i said after you put the talents in those spots your set and can put the talents in other areas where you want i recomend assasination for extra damage primarily improved eviserate then put the rest up till level 55 in MoD master of deception
now that you know where i stand on leveling talents ill tell you how i fight with this build now you all are going to either laugh or say he wont live if he does that and or why didnt he say put talents in the stun abilitys like kick mace and why did he pass up gouge and backstab? i got very good reasons for it now listen good YOU WONT NEED THEM AFTER LEVEL 40. omg heresy burn this fool ghostedwolf at the stake. no seriously you wont need them why itll one waste energy that you can use for sinister strike and evisterate but ghostedwolf if he hits ad rush he has all the energy he needs.. true but its only for a short time and has a cool down of 6 minutes not long but long enough if you use it when you dont need to
now how i do it is i walk up to the mob or mobs if im fighting two mobs my level i wont need blade furry or eviserate due to that fact i can take a hit and im doing so much damage the first critters dead before they both have me at 3/4ths health i then go to the next critter and smack him around with sinister strike and eviserate by that time depending on your luck and if you maxed out your weapons skill you should be either right at half health but most likely youll be just below 3/4ths this is of course after you have aggression and blade furry (though you wont need bladefurry just yet)
instances when you need to use blade furry and ad rush
one such instance (and i dont mean instances as in deadmines) is if you are at half health from fighting a mob four levels above you and that mob thats four levels above you is still alive and another mob say 1 level above you or lower aggros hit ad rush blade furry evasion and start useing sinsiter strike and eviserate youll find that youll be haveing to wait for sinister strike to recharge since your energy will recharge at a 100% with ad rush but thats not a problem youll live most likely unless you miss alot which may happen so keep you weapon skills up to par

sorry for the long post but theres alot of infor to cover and i wanted to be specific ok now your wondering now that im level 55 what should i respec to the best advice i can give you and since you just took 12 hours to read what i just posted ill be ever so clear go to the offical wow forums and read what people have to say about the rouge talents me personally i recommend the 21/8/22 build or a variation of that mostly heavy subtelty and daggers rouges and daggers are a major thing, i could give you guys a reaaaal long explanation why you should use this build but for your sanity and mine ill boil it down with master of deception maxed out at level 60 you stealth like your level 62 or 63 not sure which but anyway nothing can see you unless you do something foolish like oh say try to stealth to the horde auction house as a night elf rouge or try to stealth to sylvanna (think thats how you spell her name) possiable but i wouldnt try it unless your like me and you want to see how many times you can die before your armor turns red
oh forgot to put this in the other thread but stuff of the monkey is vital stamina and agility is your freind dont know the prices of enchants on euro servers hopefully they are cheap so i recommend getting lots of agility stamina gear and the best agility enchants you can buy on silverhand in the US servers i had all the armor agility enchants with the help of my guild all i had to do was buy the mats and i got the enchants for a reduced cost it ran me about 65 gold to get the enchants i needed and at that time i was level 48 and did alot of farming in areas that where gray to me so its worth it to jack up your agility as high as it can go greens are better they give good stats have decent armor and since youll be leveling fast youll burn through remember though that the more agility you have the more crits you get and more chance to dodge and parry

I'm sorry but because of the nature of that post I will refuse to read it regardless of the value of the information within. If you care to repost though I'd gladly accept an abridged and punctuated version.
-For the record I did try to read it, but didn't make it two lines before becoming angry.

Well I have a total of 6 characters the Tauren Shaman is probably the best and most fun to play, second is my Undead Warlock. I also have a Night Elf Druid and Rogue, a Human Mage, and a Dwarven Hunter. The Rogue is starting to get to the point where he's getting smacked around like the Druid and the Mage. They're all fun to play but having to stop and eat/heal after two opponents isn't how I want to have to play. I should fire up the Druid again, because it's been a while and I don't quite remember how that was goin. The Shaman can pretty much take on opponents a couple levels higher one at a time, or two of the same level or lower. The Warlock is about the same as the Shaman, but I'm determined to get as far as possible without Soulshards and using only the Imp. Let's face it they're a hassle and I don't wanna be bothered. I should take another look at the Hunter too, but I don't think that one was too promising either.
I'll try and post a progress report sometime soon.
