Hi all (again)

I have found some more Kotor III talk but this time from theforce.net

feel free to agree or diagree, I won't stop you.

The last of the Star Wars prequels leaves many fans questioning the future of the franchise. While we already know the direction of Star Wars on the small screen, it's the video game future that we're all waiting with interest to see.

Kicking things off next year will be Empire At War, and judging by early previews and screenshots, this will be the strategy title that all fans have been wanting since Force Commander all those years ago.

But so far little has been mentioned about the rest of 2006 and what we can expect. So, being the curious type, I've decided to make mention a few New Years Resolutions that hopefully will come true:

* Knights of the Old Republic III: This one is a given. After the amazing results of the first two titles, LucasArts would be silly not to explore this series just a little bit further. Most will recall that some of KOTORII was removed due to time constraints, and that before LucasArts culled it's staff, KOTORIII was in some form of pre-production. So there must be something bubbling away in the pot. If there is, look towards E3 for the announcements, if not sooner.

* LEGO Star Wars II: The 2005 sleeper hit, without a doubt, was LEGO Star Wars. While not a LucasArts developed game, the title went on to become a huge success, possibly even bigger then anyone expected. Again, it would be silly not to expand this into a franchise. Personally, I believe you could get more then just one sequel out of it. But for now, look for a Classic Trilogy edition of LEGO Star Wars some time next year.

* Star Wars Galaxies: As we've already mentioned, Galaxies pulled many punches this year, some hits some misses, but mostly the series of expansion packs this year based around Episode III has helped settle the fanbase after the major changes made. There should be at least another expansion in the wings for 2006, it's just a question of what content will be included. Wise men will put money on a title forming the links between Episode III and IV. The outsider's vote may fall upon an Expanded Universe title.

* Darth Vader: This is an interesting one. Many rumours have been around for some time regarding a Jedi Knight/Outcast style game revolving around the rise of Vader and the Empire. It's all quiet on the Vader front lately, but it's possible this game may re-appear around E3 time if LucasArts make it a reality.

* Indiana Jones: We might not see our old friend till 2007, but there will be some announcements and screenshots of the new adventure over the year.

* PS3/Xbox 360/Revolution: Who knows what may come of our favourite Star Wars titles for the new console war. Already Nintendo's Revolution controller has people thinking of many original ideas, while the power of Sony and Microsoft's entries will always be interesting to follow. LucasArts' next generation titles will be on show over the coming year. Don't forget, of course, the PSP and Nintendo DS, both of which should have at least one Star Wars title released over '06.

After that, who knows. What we can be sure of is that Star Wars within the video game circle won't be vanishing into the night just yet. If anything, the new TV and animated adventures may inspire LucasArts. On the plus side, it also leaves the company with a little extra time to develop some original titles. Or there is always Monkey Island ... or Grim Fandango ... hmmm ...

Don't have the itch to argue here, since it is true, they would be foolish to let the game go unannounced or even unconsidered (to an extent) for much longer.

While it does sound true keep in mind that no official announcement has been made and as such, KOTR 3 remains little more than a hope. If we hear any new rumors on this popular Star Wars title we'll let you know.
It's nice to know that other sites hold the opinion (logical) that a new KotOR game will eventually come out. Considering Lucas Arts gave there support to the project and is basically waiting for it to be put into production. :)

Intrigued by the rumours in the second one about KotOR III being in production over at Obsidian Entertainment.

a good sign that kotor III is about to come is the fact that dark horse comics - the comicbook developer that gave birth to the kotor univers in the first place - is about to recontinue the all so very old sw kotor univers with a new comicbook series. will it have the same succes? will it influence kotor III? we'll see...

"Our current ongoing monthly series, Republic and Empire, will be put to rest, making way for several bright and exciting projects, beginning in January with an all-new ongoing series called Knights of the Old Republic. Set 4,000 years before the films and eight years before the very successful video game of the same name, it's a return to the Old Republic time period Dark Horse created twelve years ago in our popular Tales of the Jedi series. Written by John Jackson Miller, Illustrated by Brian Ching and Michael Atiyeh, with covers by Travis Charest (WildC.A.T.s), it's sure to get your Star Wars groove on, no matter your level of fandom."

That is good news. At the very least, it's a consolation prize to hold us over till the next game, right?

Hello!

I just joined this forum to keep up with the KOTOR3 news, and also to thank Bastila Shan for digging up all those rumors and news for us. I think she(he?) deserves a bit more recognition than the mostly cold, dismisive and persimmistic comments so far. Most of her(his?) sources are from reputable websites and it is good that we are at least given the chance to know about these sources, rather than stay in the dark entirely.

So thank you, Bastila Shan, and please keep the news coming!

I might as well chime in, too. :D Bastila Shan, I apologise if I ever came off a bit too critical and pessimistic to your information. I really respect and appreciate what you're doing. ;)

I think I speak for most people here that we are greatful for what Bastila_Shan has done for us, and I certainly am. You can't fault us for being pessimistic though, as we have been waiting for a long time, and hate seeing hopes dashed from over enthusiastic authors.

Hey, we were only pessimistic on one or two, anyways. :D

Keep up the good work Bastila. :)

Dear People of GameBanshee,

Thankyou very much for all your lovely feedback, it made me really happy. I really appreciate your comments, And For your kindness, I have some good news for you all, I have found some more stuff on Kotor III (speculation wise of course) :)

I found this: :)

Please be aware that this is just speulation, so I hope you enjoy reading this and find it fun. :)

LucasArts: KOTOR 3, Mercenaries 2
LucasArts' recent silence by no means equals inactivity. On the contrary, Knights of the Old Republic 3, in development with Obsidian Development, is in the early stages of creation for a late 2006 -- most likely a 2007 -- release. The game should feature more seamless interaction between NPCs and the lead character, as well as better, more economic interactions between party members. We predict the combat system will go entirely realtime, as opposed to partially realtime (the way it was in KOTOR 1 and 2), and RPG fans will be able to enjoy more distinct shades of gray recognized by characters instead of the black and white distinctions made in the first two iterations of the series.

Yes, I've just found this link on another forum, and it's really got me all giddy. :D I just don't understand the 'realtime vs. partially-realtime' business; what's that all about?

This article, no matter whether it's accurate or merely speculative, is probably the best KotOR III news I've hear so far.

The giddiness takes over!! :D   :speech:  :D

:) Sorry.

And as for the compliments, you're very welcome.

I hate to say it but, I havent yet seen an official, so excuse me if i dont go all giddy. :(

But its hope, and part of that hope is that its a mid to late 07 release so they can spend as much time as thety need to with it.

Also the real time to partial time, i liked combat the way it was, real time angers me.

yeah man... lucasarts is going to launch the final game on schedule (and a fine game --i hope-- it will be) and still no public announce about their next product. and i didn't hear obsidian showing off with a new game... this silence is actually a pretty good sign of what lucasarts intends for us.

and this move wold be the most logical (the silence i mean). lucasarts is in the state when a company thinks if the product sould make money or have a superior quality. this financial thing is bothering the publisher since kotor II.

kotor II was actually more of a test intended for obsidian. they wanted to see if obsidian could make kotor II as well as bioware did (or better) but in a much much shorter amount of time. obsidian stood up to the task in many ways but surpassed all expectations with the new, more mature and darker, storyline and the performances of the actors. lucasarts has been very pleased with the way obsidian continued the kotor legacy and, thus passed the test. i doubt that lucasarts wold have continued kotor if obsidian failed.

but one thing we don't know is if obsidian can be as creative as bioware was... so lucasarts dosen't exactly know if obsidian is really ready to put their plan in motion... so they gave them some more time to think about it.

if kotor III will not bring in new stuff for the rpgs (as kotor I did and kotor II partially did) bioware will sink along with kotor as fast as u can say "i love revan". not every gamer is interested in cool storylines and quality acting. a clear indication to that is battlefront wich is lucasarts best selling game eva and is the biggest pice of junk since the phantom menace.

lucasarts wold rather invest in another battlefront, but lucasarts HAS TO obey the voice of the fans and i know they will... they have no other alternative

EDIT: well Bastila_Shan did a good job with this thread. there's a odd sence of humanity stricking me... i hope it goes away... well... u colud say i... mmm... odd... thank u Bastila_Shan. there, it's gone. kinda lost it over there.

yea ill go along with that. I dont mind to much if its an 07 release as long as it takes no longer and since its such a wait i hope its a ton better than the other 2 put together. If they are working on it right now then they must be adding stuff to it cuz it shouldnt take this long for a 3rd since the 2nd came out one year later. I hope they use every1's ideas like hoods, mine is fight 2 enemys at one like obi wan, anakin, and dooku. I would like to see the game be long with more creativity to the character. just be patient it will come out sooner or later trust me because this is there best game and they cant refuse to let it go. the wait will be well worth it.

u r thinking backwards man... "I hope they use every1's ideas like hoods" i mean, come on, do u think lucasarts or obsidian gives a damn thing about "every1's ideas". yeah they can use some... some of the smarter... but i haven't seen a game based on the idears of the fans... eva. the posts, threads, forums regarding kotor r only proof that the public opinion is in favor. "this is their best game"??? not by far man. producers and publishers see it in a financial kind of way. the current target is the general public. they make games intended for as many people as possible. the only thing that can get them going is us. the more posts the better. so post up people

Everyone is being so intelligent about these rumours. I just smile like an idiot every time someone mentions KotOR III and go all giddy for no apparent reason.

I don't honestly believe we'll be getting KotOR III by late'06/early'07. As a matter of fact, the longer we wait, the better, IMHO. But alas, I tend to get overexcited without facing the facts much. It makes me look stupid. So bleargh.

Okay, this is probably nothing, so I'm trying hard not to get excited, but theforce.net is posting a page from "a uk gaming magazine" that's reporting on a rumour of KOTOR III coming out on the 360 in the fourth quarter. The posted picture, however, is of the Exile fighting Darth Sion, so it could easily be misleading and/or erroneous info. Here's the url: http://www.theforce.net/latestnews/stor ... _96536.asp

Any idea what uk gaming magazine it is that they're referring to? I wouldn't mind seeing the info first hand, even if it's a wild goose chase.

Another page from the article from the unknown magazine, this time from rebelscum.com:
http://img506.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... 7775em.jpg

This page has text on it that refers to obsidian handling the duties, and to a fourth quarter 2006 release. Nothing we haven't heard, and the images are from KOTOR II, I know, but it is encouraging to see this stuff in print, even if it is still just a rumour, no?
