Great idea. But what type of vehicle will give you the vehicular missions?
In the GTA series, it has to be a service vehicle like a police vehicle or something similar.

Hmm..... at least it sounds better than flying real-time through space staring at the dark expanse when travelling from planet to planet.
And one thing to add. What about implementing a physics engine like the Havok's physics engine? Will make the environment interactive plus when you throw some explosive at enemies, they'll be blown away realistically, though they might end up in weird poses after the explosion. Plus, if they slide off the edge, then you won't be able to grab the items on their bodies.
Also, if enemies died and dropped their weapons, you should be able to pick them up and add them to your inventory. More realistic in that sense rather than disappearing after they died.
