There is a kind of waypoints. After reaching lvl 5,10,15 (I think, don't remember the exact numbers) A shortcut will open between that level and the town.

It was quite a long time since I played diablo, so I don't remeber very well, But I think that when you reach level 5 or 10 you will find three stairs on that level. One is the one you came from, one is down to next level, and one is up to town. If you use the one that leads to the town you will spawn in the town near the correct place. If I remember correcly one of the places will be a crypt, and another will be a chasm.

It might be that I remembered incorrectly and the shortcuts are not on level 5 and 10 but level 4 and 8 or 3 and 6 or something, so you have to look through every level carefully.

There are waypoints on every 5th lvl. I don't remeber them so well but I think the first one should end in the big crypt besides the church.

-can you get town portals?
Yes, you can get town portals from the witch, Adria. When you get far enough in the game, you can cast a Town portal as a spell, saving your money.

-do you ever get skill points like diablo 2?
No, you dont get skill points, but you do find books around the levels that you right click to learn, but they do take certain magic levels

-does anyone play online?
Lots of people still play online, yes, even the original...

-is there a private stash?
Sadly, there is no Private stash thing in here...

- is there wps?
There is somewhat of a waypoint.... Around every five levels, you find three exit/entrances, one that leads you to the previous level, one that leads you to the next level and one that leads you back to Tristram.

I hope my information has helped you in many ways...
