two quick questions:
1. do pets cause any xp rewards to be reduced/shared?
2. with shields, what does the damage indicate (not x% to block y damage). do shields actually cause damage?

two beginner questions
1. No. Pets are actually just extensions of your abilities, so they do not leech any exp. Think of them as walking fireballs thrown by a mage.
2. Some skills in the Defense tree use the shield to inflict damage like a weapon on your enemy, such as shield charge, and batter etc...when the shield proc occurs, it is this damage amount that is done...sort of like a momentary "dual wield" for shield users.
