I believe the idea of the shield being used as a weapon mainly applies to the mastery of defense. There are some skills in this mastery that allows the shield tobe used as a weapon.
yea, that's my understanding of it too. it counts as a weapon only if you have the skills from defense mastery - like batter or sheild slam, or those other %chance of attack skills.
