Possible Trade Scam

I was in a game called trading purple. The other character asked me what i had for trade so I placed a number of items in my trade window. The "scammer" placed a ring in the window. i tried to cancel the deal but i lost the server and ended up losing all of my gear in the trade window with nothing to show for it but a lousy purple ring. Has this happened to anyone else ?
