There are meat vendors in every city and in some small places also. Just ask around in general chat where to find him. You have to keep your pet content and well fed 'cause that's the only way he'll become loyal.

It's not very easy but also not very hard. It will definetly pay off ;) You just need some extra room in your bag for the food.

Good luck and have fun :) )

Pets cannot get a higher lvl than you have. He'll get exp as soon as you become lvl 12.

Of course you can buy food for your pets, but you can also get it in other ways.

As you mentioned meat and fish, I'll focus on those.

Meat - Just kill a few beasts (wolves or boars or such), the meat they drop, even if you can't eat it, is usually possible to feed to your pet.

Fish - Learn fishing. It takes a bit of an effort to get going (you'll miss a lot at the start) but if you're in the area you learnt the skill you should then start to catch a few fish and gain skill points (which helps a lot, higher level areas require a higher fishing skill). Just about all fish are good.

Also, consider learning cooking. It doesn't increase the number of food items you have, but those food items you can cook are, well, 'upgraded'. This helps when you get higher level as your pet will want better food. You can check this by looking at the happiness gained from feeding one piece of food to a pet.
