Enemies don't like Combat Mages? (Finala)

Post by Lady Sophia »

I don't know, but Finala always seems to be the person getting killed most often in my party. Everyone seems to hate her for some reason.

Is it because her spells are longest range, or maybe enemies attack her because they got cursed, perhaps? I don't know, but i wouldn't mind knowing how the AI attacks people. Would be nice to know.

P.S.
IGNORE (can't stress this enough), IGNORE the effects of Hatred and Anger. I'm fully aware of anger and hatred, and there effects. That is NOT what i am talking about. I'm just talking general, run of the mill monsters always seem to target Finala.

I've always put it down to her upsetting everyone in a past lifetime perhaps, but seriously, it is annoying. She dies first, the monsters totally skip my melee people and proceed to pound poor defenseless Finala. Anyone had this trouble? Never had it with my healers though. Taar and Deru don't seem to get hurt much, just Finala.

Possibly enemies attack people in the party who cast curses? Anyone else found this? Or is just me?

pretty much the dsII engine dont like characters cursing the monsters, so when the monsters get cursed, the engine makes them angry and will attack the curser first and being that magic sometimes hits the monsters first, that also makes them go after the curser as well. thats a drawback of having curses... Summons can have that affect to it seems, so poor Finalla may be better off just using her main magic spells and forgetting curses and summons especially in act 3.

Well, I read on DS2 official site that enemies attack that party member who has the biggest damage. Since Finala is a combat mage, she will always do the biggest damage and will therefore be attacked first. You should power her up with some health and armor-giving items.

True. Give Finala more Health and Armour. That would improve survivability. Well, thanks people. Another thing i could try and do, is to make my Duel Wielder do more damage than Finala. Though, that might prove difficult since Combat Magic is the creme-de-la-creme for high damage output.

It's not that i mind watching Finala die, and get reborn just for her to die again. It keeps the enemy off my Healers. It's just, irritating watching the enemies walk past my melee characters who are clearly knocking the stuffing out of them, because by the time they reach Finala there pretty much dead anyhow.

Oh well, thank you. Maybe i could get a Mod which reverts the game back to the DS1 engine. "Attack Nearest". That was fun, trying to revive your melee character once they'd bitten more they could chew when the body lies in the middle of a group of monsters.

actually it's not really bad if all the enemies attack the combat mage.

as for me, my character is combat mage, and as Darkelven said, i agreed that the monster don't like character that use curses. everytime i put on the auto cast curses, monster will attack me. BUT i got a WAY to overcome it.

press "G" switch to RAMPAGE mode, then control the Combat Mage run around, others member in team will still attacking nearby monster. after luring all monsters together, then press all AREA's POWER to strike those asses! muahahaha it's cool, you can try it.
