for races the Dryad starts with the most dexterity 14, so she should be the best with ranged weapons... then human and elf both have 11 dex, but human have more strength and magic find, so they maybe better than elf at range, half giants have least dexterity so wouldnt try them.

as for skills just pick one group, either thrown or bow/crossbow and go that route... should try to get a little survival (to get health potions) and dodge for either.

for bow the range skill is very handy, the more range the further back ya shoot and later on in game the further back ya are the less the magic damage will do and is key to killing trap chests, damage is also key. i like the bow myself, because of the frequent drops, but im sure others will prefer crossbow or thrown weapons.

Tried thrown weapons...wasn't that impressed. Bows and crossbows will slightly out range thrown. The one thing I really hated was all the thrown weapons only seem to do about 2/3 the damage as to what I could get in the bow/crossbow catagory.

Mind you, these are only my findings and opinions. But I have read numerous amount of posts that really didn't like the thrown weapons route. If you want to try out thrown weapons, but don't want to have to be stuck with your character being that way, just pick up vix along the way. But be warned, that man draws some serious agro and he will be knocked out of the fight quite often. I have read other people saying the same thing. ...and they weren't joking. I bet I lost him in fights 10 to 1 over my other party members.

Hope that helps...
