Trances are mostly useless except maybe a point or two in the first one available.
As for onslaught versus psionic touch. Go for onslaught. Psionic touch and other charge up finishing moves are really meant for bosses and tough monsters, but Titan Quest uses a lot of hordes and batallions of baddies, so having a hefty damage bonus active most of the time would be much better for you. MUCH better.

I disagree on trances.
Trance of Convalescence is the most generic. Here you get 15% damage absorption (even more at +4 skills). That is sweet! A harbinger needs all the defense they can get especially if they dual wield. Also +health/mana regen which could be good if you have a devoted build (read gear).
Trance of Empathy Damage Reflects up to 60% (more with +4 skills). There is no other skill or item that does this. Plus you get +3-10% health of each hit which scales to legendary. Best if you can afford to get hit a lot and reflect the damage. For life drain builds (vitality, life leach, and %health/hit) Trance of Wrath is better because it reduces resistances to these forms of attack and this means you get more life pulled with trance of wrath on.
And Drum Roll....Trance of Wrath!!!!!! gives skill interuption (Huge!!!!DEFENSE), a little burn damage, and Reduction to resistances (which includes physical damage I believe). A heavy resistance to all attacks is the number one reason why legendary opponents are hard to kill. Squall, Study Prey, and Trance of Wrath are the 3 best skills in the game because they reduce resists.
Imagine something has 80% resistance to the form of damage I am doing. It also has 2000 health. That means I have to do 10000 damage to kill it. If I have Trance of Wrath at cap +4 I reduce resists by 40%. This means that the monsters effective resistance is 48%. Now it only takes around 4000 damage to kill the monster meaning that 60% of my damage was done by a trance! This is an extreme example, but legendary oponents actually do have high resists. And in lower difficulties the electrical burn damage makes up for the fact that the reduction in resists is less meaningful. Also the reduction in resists happens to any form of resistance: elemental, piercing, vitality, energy drain, etc... Now your weapons that deal 15% mana drain for 100% burn will really hit home and your life drain kick them in the nads. I think Dream with all its total damage mods is the king of making every stat work for you (add this to the argument below as Psionic touch is a total damage mod whereas onslought is only damage which granted converts to piercing too)
Psionic Touch is better for hit and run tactics and bosses. The damage of 4 hits is more (meaning better for bosses), and you don't need to charge it up to 8 levels. Anything that can survive too much more than four hits from a harbinger with associated firepower warrants some warhorn, distort whatever, dreamstealer, etc. Or it means your weapon sucks. It is LESS defensive (lose ignore pain) and overall is weaker per average hit assuming full charge of onslought (actually multiples of four do more damage with psionic touch because it is a high % Total Damage and an AOE DOT bomb) but it costs much fewer points and thus is more efficient. Plus demons are your major enemy in the hardest difficulty of the game and the % to demons is much much higher than the max you get from warfares left click. Finally if you are at the speed cap warfares synergy doesn't help you. Ditto at pierce resist cap.
However if you are finding that 1-2 enemies are not dying in four hits by all means use onslought (not including giant guys who hit slow and miss a lot and are pansies). If you are fighting huge mobs you should be using crowd control and AOE attacks anyhow. Bosses will get hit by a whole lot of multiples of four. Also IF YOU ARE FAR FROM THE SPEED CAP use onslought and its total speed synergy....of course you might want to put into dreams passive total speed synergy first.
I admit Psionic Touch is debatable but you have to admit it eats up fewer skill points. When you factor in that warfare and dream are both skill point hogs. I think you will agree Psionic touch is better. Perhaps a level 75 with many + skills I would take Warfares leftclick? But perhaps not. At that point you could probably do most anything and toast anyone.
A closing argument. 1 point each in psionic touch and its synergy make a difference. Does one point in onslought and one of its synergies help?

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
