Help! DSII stopped loading

I've been able to play DSII fine, then out of the blue it started freezing after the splash screen. I get the dots then it hangs.

I've tried a workaround to check for any security stuff blocking the loading. Nothing seems to be stopping it, at least I don't see any messages from my software. I haven't installed anything new recently either. I even tried closing the AV software etc to make doubly sure it wasn't that.

The DungeonSiege.ini file was blank. As per another guide, I renamed that and tried loading again but it's still hanging in the same place. I've re-installed before that and also tried patching the game but still can't load it.

Any ideas?

Perhaps renaming the *.ini file only is not enough, try the hole folder too.
Sadly it seems there are a couple of possibilites causing that matter.
