Build matched with weapon

Post by Vidar »

Just thought I would make a thread following up on Serberys's thread on build's but this time matching the weapon with the build and why it works.

Obviously damage is a factor so don't post "because of damage and my character likes to dish out damage..."

For example one of my char's is a Dream/warfare duel wielder. I have gone down the onslaught path however I have decided that life leech is not doing me any favours against constructs and undead so I have gone with duel wielding 2 x Persephones Favour (axe)and items that give me bonus to health regen.

2 x Persephones Favour (I think thats the name of the weapon)
= 2 x 50 health regen a second = 100 regen a second without additional % bonuses from other items.

Alternate weapon if you can not obtain Persephone's Favour could be Enkidu's Stand (axe I think) regen = 25 a second from each.

So now I am attacking undead and constructs in act3 of legendary regening life back faster than what they can dish out.

Ok, I'll leave it open to other's thoughts. ;)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Quote fix: the title of the item is Persephone's Caress not Favour.

:)

I'm thinking of dual wielding that (persephone caress) with a rimescythe with my thane. I wouldn't benefit from as much +health per second but the cold damage boost would help. Or two rimesythes which counts towards set bonuses.

I'll post my pretty decent illusionist gear (not perfect and I do think of defense as well as offense)...

Hermes Winged Helm
Stonebinder cuffs modifier of +43 DA with Lieu Neng Guile +36% pierce resist bon
Verdante Plate
Athenas Battlegreaves
Scorpion Tail
Shield of Korybantes
Ring of Gaia *now a green ring see below
Loop of Chiron
Sacred Amulet of might with L. Demon Blood +50 stun mana res. bonus
Dark Core pierce retribution bonus yuck (for pierce resist) *now Effigy of Panther

I'm looking to switch out some items to increase pierce resist and but I don't want to lose the goodness of my existing gear :) I think a double green ring with useful pre/suf that I can socket with monkey king trickery (elemental resist and debuff) with completion bonus of pierce resist if possible would rock in place of Gai ring although thats good with HoO and Tranquility of water.

Also looking for murk crawlers and armor of anubis. And elysium star ring. Venom husk.

Edit: I found the green ring of choice an arctic ring of supremacy 62 cold +83 OA and +37% slowed. Cold makes use of wasted int points (puts the +% to element to work) and makes knives good. The slow puts my nightshade almost at the cap +77% slow without needing it on the weapon! I was missing lethal strikes so the OA is a godsend. I socketed with monkey kings trickery (comp. bonus +26% pierce resist) and changed my artifact to effigy of the panther (comp. bonus +250 energy).

Now I do 250 (knive) or 500 (spear) poison per second for 12 seconds and debuff resists by -37 (NOT percent but rather straight ie can get negative ;) )

Dang I traded those Muck Crawlers away some time ago...they look cool but didn't find them as good as Athenas boots.

Another useful weapon I found was legendary green text Folg. Basically the stats on it had good bonus % to damage and attack speed + on attack it has a chance of blasting everyone around your melee char with the Storm Clap ability (the electrical burst attack that the Chimera does in Babylon and the Sentinel does near the Labyrinth).

Very cool weapon in which I socketed with a legendary Anubis charm for life leech for my Spirit/warfare character. She uses a shield and the Folg for the main weapon. Life leech being important since she has maxed the Deathchill tree and can leech life off of Undead and constructs even in Legendary difficulty.

The athenas boots are good resists and movement and %damage right? Good boots, maybe I would not switch to murk crawlers ? But I play my illusionist not really beating things to death but mostly casting: regrowth, flash powder, traps, knives, plague. Thats a lot to do. When I do attack I usually just tag everyone who is attacking me to confuse them (or run if its a pack and wait for flash powder).

So the % damage isn't that big a deal for my build. I do love the movement though! With the helm and boots and HoO I have 166% movement  Fun to have 10 mantis chasing me running around in traps and wolves and plague haha.
