So I'll get down to it;
When I finish the original Titan Quest on normal mode, I could continue with IT and the char imports automatically. But my IT manual states that I cannot import that char back to the original TQ afterwards.
So I cannot continue with the improved IT char to the original game on Epic difficulty?
And if not, what is wisdom here, what did you guys do? Play TQ thrice and afterwards IT thrice?

You should import the char to IT. Then play act 5 hades. Now that (beating hades) unlocks the next level of difficulty, epic. Now play acts 1 - 5 in epic and you don't have to go back to regular TQ just play IT from now on. Its nice new items and formulas etc will now drop in greece etc.
The only reason to load normal TQ ever again is to play MP with friends who don't have IT. Of course you should preferably convince them to buy IT
Edit: so TQ regular doesn't mean act 1 - 4. It is just without the extra content. TQ IT also includes act 1-4 you can start a new char in IT.
