Cant kill zhar the mad

Hi guys, I am currently -again- playing Diablo and am fighting Zhar the mad. I use the sword of the leech...

I have him in a corner and whenever he appears I belt him 3-4 times. I have been doing this for a good 5 minutes now....

Any reason why he doesn't die?

That's quite bizzare, try walking around a bit doing something else. It's not necessary to kill him to pass the level or game and I think all the bookcases can be searched without killing him.

He usually only drops a simple magic item anyway.

I did what you suggested:

cleaned up level 8, one of the baddies dropped an axe that was 4-12 instead 2-10... plus some other differences. knocked him!
