What's better - BLUE or GREEN + Relic ?
I'm new to all this and now playing my second character, as I deleted my first "hero", who was so pathetic with an embarrassingly high death rate. "Hero" no 2 is better and on Dream with sword and shield, but on his level, cannot get past an enormous green spider in an olive grove
The new "hero" has got a couple of powerful Blue items, but cannot equip them until his strength reaches 133. He's also got the artifact Molton Orb, which could probably double damage rate. Unfortunately, this cannot be used either without all the required relics. You could say this game can get a tad frustrating at times !
As only the less powerful Green items appear to be enhanceable with relics, which works out the more powerful in the long run, Green + relic, or Blue ?
Or does it vary dependent on which level you have reached in the game ?

Two things-
First, they aren't blue and green items. I have no idea why people use the name of the color coding to identify the items, makes no sense. Yellow = magic, green = rare and sets, blue = Epic, Purple = legendary.
Nothing against you man, just a personal pet peeve of mine.
Secondly, it doesn't matter what color the item is, what matters is the stats on them. I've seen stats on a rare item with near equivalent that of an epic item, but with a relic, the rare item became more powerful. And yet I've also seen epic items that are way stronger than that of a rare item. It really just matters about what each item gives.

In the beginning it is hard to sort out. In general a blue item is pretty good if it is near your level. Once you are much higher level (than the level requirement of the blue item) then most of the green's + relics are better. There is also something called a monster infrequent item. It is a rare monster item that can also have magic properties on top of it's monster infrequent ones.
Monster Infrequent (that I think are good)
stonebinder cuffs +elemental resist +skills - dropped by gorgons very rare
sabertooth - rare you have good chance to get one dropped by tigermen
deathweaver legtip - rare dropped by spiders with armor

Thanks for your reply Claudius
From your list of 3 enemy types, I've only come across spiders so far as I'm a first time player and still in Greece. The other 2 types must appear later in the game.
The other person who responded to my question states that Blue items are from Epic. So why am I finding them whilst still in early Normal ?

"Epic Items" doesn't mean it comes from the Epic gameplay difficulty. It's more of there term for Unique. Legendary being the same, more or less the super-unique or something.

TQ calls them epic because they are 'epic quality'. The fact that you can find them in normal means they are valuable at that time since they are much better than whatever else you find.
When you pick items also think how it fits your mastery and playstyle. For example ring of the osprey (+piercing) is going to be better on a character who uses a spear, a rogue who uses blade honing, and a hunter who uses pierce skills.
The items I listed are really really good. You might not find them. I doubt you find the stonebinder cuffs. I have only found 2 pair in all my characters! I have found tons of sabertooths (act 3) and tons of deathweaver legtips. But its not guaranteed you will get one.
Another good idea in greece is to save gold. Then find termerus the blacksmith who is hidden. Sometimes he has a good item that brings a smile.
It really helps your character to have the best equipment. But the game is actually a fun challenge when you are actually excited to find the gear. Some people twink. That means they pass on good items from previous characters. Its kinda fun at first to be more powerful but the real fun of the game is to see what treasure drops and make a character from scratch.

It all depends on what piece of equipment your using and what level you are.
Rare
Shields really arent that great mainly have damage bonuses which u prolly dont need a shield for. But as claudius points out there are the infrequent shields such as outriders buckler deathweavers. Armour is pretty much the same except for the rare stuff like stonebinder cuffs(so hard to find am i right!). The green's strength lies in weaponry, rings and amulets. Nothing else can do more damage than a rare weapon found in the legendary difficulty thats been socked.
Epic
The best armour in the game without question for a melee is the atreus set which pretty much has resistance to everything, and its blue. But blues are mainly for medium to low level characters.
Legendary
Purple equipment is the best all round for sure, weapons, armour, amulets, rings doesnt matter.

Actually, that's not true. I've found tons of items in game that are better than Legendary Items. A lot of the Rare items with a legendary Relic can easily top that of a Legendary Item.

I think you are actually agreeing with eachother if I read correctly. You both say that greens are with Legendary relic are best weapons which is not always true (Sapros eg)

The thing about Rares and MIs is that they can get affixes.
Which means, you can get far more extreme stats with Rares, than you can with Epics or Legendaries.
That, coupled with Relics and Charms means that if you're willing to farm, you can tweak your character even more than you could with Epics or Legendaries.
Sure, Epics and Legendaries are good, but I've found store bought items that give me a higher Base DPS than my current Legendaries.
So I'd say that greens are better, because they can have far more concentrated stats.

What i was saying about the greens was directed solely at the armor and shields with with the exception of stone binders. There is no green armor or shield that exists that can give u the resistance bonuses u need in order to get through legendary. No bonuses from relics can boost them up to the level of an ainios or zeno's third parolax. Weapons are always gonna do more damage with a murderous of blade of chaos or something similar that is socked. But all round the legendary armour and shields are far superior then th rare ones.

All I can say to everyone is one word "Folg"....
Thats right "Folg"...found a damn good MI version recently that does a stack load of damage and has the chance to create a lightning burst that stuns all enemies around. Yes it is a rare (green) weapon found when you lay the smack down on enough of those big Troglodyte like fellas. Currently my Warfare/Spirit 65th lvl char uses it - it worked out to be better than any legendary weapon I have found thus far in the game..
..which leads me to the fact that eventually rares become better than Legendary weapons on the damage front (if reliced or charmed also)however there are some Legendary items out there that have so many bonuses on them it is next to impossible to relic or charm any type of rare to equate to the same amount of bonuses...so basically I have to rate Legendaries higher in the overall bonuses category than rares.
Also I found a great MI staff (rare and yes green text)from one of the succubus winged staffed demon woman. The staff that was dropped gives me +4 to Distort Reality
Now the big million dollar question I have is that whether MI's can appear on any rare type of item or are they only attached to that of certain items e.g. "Stonebinders" or "Folgs" etc....
Reason I ask is because there is the potential to find then a MI set e.g. if MI could spawn on any rare then you could have a very powerful Basari set (boss at the end of clay soldiers quest) or a very powerful Wraith set (wraith cages and the like found from the drowned zombie types and sub boss in Act one in Catacombs).
Anyways food for thought.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
