What exactly is damage resistance?

Hi,
Ive searched for a thread on this topic but have found none. I'm aware of what elemental,poison,pierce,stun resistance etc is. However, i'm not sure specifically what damage resistance means. Also what is the difference between damage resistance and absorbtion?

Any name with a resistance is a new way to resist that type of damage, so damage resistance resists melee and ranged damage that's not piercing.

Absorption comes into effect if you have enough damage resistance to actually start healing by getting hit by that sort of damage, but that's a rarity.

Ok so basically damage resistance works against everything except piercing. Wow that's interesting about the damage absorbtion. Does that work with the convalescence trance? I've heard that if u have 100% damage absorbtion you are invinsible. How much damage resistance would you need to achieve absorbtion?

That isn't what I said. Damage resistance works against regular damage from a weapon. The melee damage from a mace or ranged damage from a bow, any part of that, that isn't piercing, is considered resisted in damage.

Yeah, you would be Invincible, but considering there's a cap on damage absorption, that doesn't matter. To achieve an effective Damage Absorption, you'd need to have Damage Absorption and Damage Resistance exceed 100%, which is possible with both, but not with either of them alone.

This is damn near impossible to get by the way, you'd have to spend most of your item slots to be able to get this by legendary, and even then, any magick user, rogue, ranger, or anybody that doesn't specifically do melee or ranged damage will obliterate you.
