Hello everyone.
I recently bought DS2 Deluxe Edition and patched it to v2.2. I run a wireless LAN through a netgear router. I run Win XP with SP2 and i have disabled all software firewalls and activated UnDP. No other games give me any problems, only DS2.
Both PC's can create and join games. The chat works and everything seems fine. But only the host launches the game when the "Start" button is pressed. I have tried to have the other pc "Ready" before the host press "Start". And i have tried to wait until the host has loaded the game and then press "join". But nothing works. I only get a message that says "communication established. Connecting to host", and that's it!
I only have 1 network connection established and i have tried to kill the DSL-connection. I have also tried remove the wireless connection and play with a cable, no luck!
LAN Problem. Can create and join but NOT START.

One of Several Problems
Alright, I will try to help as best I can. If you have done some of these just ignore them.
Step 1: make sure both games have the same version. Since you didn't get a version mismatch so far so good.
Step 2: Make sure all the firewalls and etc. are disabled! *on both computers*. I know you said you did this but make sure they done on both.
Also make sure the Windows Firewall is disabled and/or DS2 is added to the exceptions list on both computers.
Step 3: Are both your computers hooked up to the router all the time or just for DS2? When you hook in a new computer sometimes resetting the router might help also resetting the cable modem.
Step 4: Make sure you router is up to date with the last firmware version. Also try fiddling with one computer at a time, can each computer get on the internet. It may be a router problem not the game.
Step 5: Make sure all the settings on the game is correct. This may sound silly but make sure people can join mid game. Make sure your parties work together. Like does one game have 2 characters and you are only allowing it to play with 1 character each. Try starting new characters for both and see where that goes.
Step 6: ok this is even sillier, but make sure no MODS are being run on either computer. It won't work if one game has mods and one doesn't.
Step 7: Have patience? This may be even worse than before but the second player can't start loading the game until the first player is in the game. Give it at least 5 mins minimum. Once player one is in the game player 2 should start loading.
Thats all I got so far. Consult DS2 Troubleshooting for more help.
Let me know how it turns out!!

Thanks for taking your time to help me Zaramoth. Unfortunetly it did not help.
I've done all that, the router got the latest firmware and works perfectly. All other games works perfect, it's only DS2 that gives me problems. It feels like i have tried EVERYTHING, i just don't get it! It's highly frustrating.

Hello everybody. Google just sent me here and I have decided to register to help you out as I also had this problem and solved it. Hope it's not too late.
so, you get "communication established. Connecting to host" and it just sits like that. Here's what you have to do:
Firstly make sure you both have the same version installed/patched, say 2.2 for example. ok, of course you already knew that but the tricky part is the following:
Both you and your friend check the DungeonSiege2.exe size. The exe's have to be exactly the same in order for the game to work. Check to see if your exe is 18.1Mb and your buddy's exe isn't actually 6.14Mb (the 2.0 version's exe). Don't know why but DS2 sometimes keeps the old exe even after updating to 2.2...
Just send your 18.1Mb DungeonSiege2.exe to your friend and it will work.
Remember: the key is having exactly the same exe.
