Starting again after Typhon masacare

Post by GreenDelight »

I was playing a earth/nature (summoner) and was 34 when I tried to do Typhon. I didn't have much luck at all. I tried for around 2 hours, following what advice I could find through the forums. The longest I lasted was around 5 minutes, and the most I ever got him down was around 1%. Maybe. In the end, though, I'm playing a game to have fun. If I wanna work, I'll go to work. I know there are those that feel a game should be challenging, and I agree, but that's just beyond silly.

Anyway, I'm going to try again, with a different class. I'm looking for a class combo that will let me have fun and finish the game. I had a LOT of fun with this class combo up until the end. The only other boss that gave me any trouble at all was the Neanderthal giant creature with that meteor storm/freeze combo. After a few tries, I was able to finish.

Reading around I've read spirit/earth is a good combo. Any other suggestions?

Hi,

I have found Dream/Warfare to be a good combo + Spirit/Warfare + Hunter/Rogue + Dream/Spirit.

Currently using Hunter/Rogue (58th level) and I found a relatively easy way to kill the first Typhon by just running around him planting Traps and shooting him from range. Basically he just kept on trying to attack the traps and I could replenish them faster than he could destroy them.....also I would just shoot him from range...

Currently building a pure Earth character (25th level) so will let you know how I get on with that. Currently using Volcanic orb/Core Dweller/Eruption and Stone Form for health regen (which I only use when against mobs of creatures).

With my Spirit/Warfare character (melee character) I just used my Lich King to tank and ran around the back of Typhon and hit him in the back using Onslaught.

One thing to make sure you do no matter what character build you use is study his animation sequence...the quicker you learn as to when he will rain meteors down the better chances you have to survive...

good luck

;)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Thanks for the interesting information. I just started a Dream character and have been loving it as a melee character with a couple of the abilities. It's been lots of fun, but she really drains mana quickly! I wasn't sure what to combine it with, so I haven't made that choice yet. I never thought of warfare, and may try that since I'm playing as a melee character anyway.

I tried a spirit build for about a dozen levels, but got really bored with it. It was suggested I use the Ternion attack from Spirit and just hitting that same button over and over again really just got boring. I hadn't considered combining with warfare, because it seemed boring, too, but looking at the skill tree, many of the skills compliment Dream very nicely. I think I'll give that a try next.

Thank you!

With dream going melee, I feel you can't go wrong with either Warfare or defense. I currantly have both and they work quite nicely.

The Harbinger (warfare+dream) is using dual wield along with psionic touch. I started with onslaught, but found the dual wield route to be more effective. Things that increase my attack speed have really helped.

The Paladin (defense+dream) is going the outright power route. Club weapons with psionic touch along with phantom strike. Slower then the harbinger but more damage in one blow.

Both are equally nice and fun builds. Just remember though, it is highly possible to build both of these characters with no ranged attacks what so ever. Meaning that you will be looking Typhon square in the face to fight him. As the prior post stated, learn his moves and it will make the job much easier. Worst case, take phantom strike and you can just spam him to death with it. Nothing like watching the baddies go about there business when you dissappear only to have you reappear right in there face with a well increase weapon strike. Don't give up though. It took me forever to kill Typhon with my first character (warden) but was so sweet when I did.

OH one last piece of advice. Don't be afraid to use a mystic to change your powers around. Some builds do really well at first but start to suffer in the latter stages of the game.

Bust of luck!!!

Did you delete the summoner?

I would try getting rid of all pets (spec out points) because typhon will thrash them. Then see what you can do about masteries to unlock abilities. I haven't tried getting him to stand in the middle of an eruption but its worth a try if his AI is silly. Eruption with Volativity and Earth Enchantment can probably do a lot of damage if he stands in the middle of it. He may have fire resist but the fragments will hurt too. And you can debuff him with plague X (for duration test how long it needs to last to get it stacking with eruption) -- Fatigue X (whatever you can spare to reduce his speed) -- Susceptibility (to debuff physical and elemental resists)

I haven't tried this obviously and I think the problem with Typhon is he is shooting so much stuff. Anyhow thats my advice as I am sure the pets won't make it because he has so much attacks.

Also my advice is to take your time playing this game. Just have fun toasting monsters and hoping for new gear. Once you see Hades that newness is forever gone but the fun of a well designed game will remain. Its like a card game is always fun but a movie is only good once or twice unless you are really a TV watcher.

And if you do this you might have more levels and gear. Not with the attitude that the game is work and that it is your job to beat typhon. No the game is fun. Its nice to have a goal but enjoy the scenary too.

Anyhow happy hunting!! Warden is a good mastery to beat the game. I am playing a guardian right now but nature has so many pets I bet always has trouble with typhon...but guardian is strong loads of healing.

Thank you all for the replies.

I still have the summoner character. She's still my favorite right now. I died a bit throughout, but she was still a lot of fun to play. I played as a summoner with the core dweller, two wolves, and the nymph. It's like playing an mmo, with a full party! Tank, 3 dps, and me, the healer (but I'm a dps/aoe, too!)! I have healing kind of high, too. But I also had volcanic orb with all additions, eruption, volatility, but no plague. I tried briar patch briefly but I didn't like it at all, and I don't think it would help with Typhon anyway.

I hadn't considered respeccing her to fight Typhoon. I had done so well up until then, that I thought if I had some good resists going, I would be ok. It was very disheartening to see that I did almost no damage, though, after 5 minutes of doing everything I could. I think plague might seriously help with this. I've never played with it, though, so I'd have to back off and play with it first to see how it works.

I've been having a LOT of fun with the game. I've done every quest I can find and mapped out every inch of all the territories. Even if I go no further, I did have fun with the overall game, I just didn't like the ending of the book very much. I can say the same thing about some of the Stephen King novels I've read. Loved the books, but his endings need work!

Some of the videos I've seen seem to indicate that there are balance issues with some of the class combos. But with all the possible combos, I guess there are some that would turn out really well, and others that turn out poorly.

Anyway, I might try the respec route, too, but I'm having fun with my new Dream warrior. Phantom strike is fun! Too bad it's a mana drain!

I would suggest farming for better gear. What was your dps against typhon? If you dont have good gear and resistances typhon will maul you especially in epic or legendary. As for builds i would try a build with dream in it to make things easier for you and maybe add warfare or defense. Dream tends to make up for a lack of good weapons. A caster is a fairly tough build to start with make sure your adding all ur attribute points into intelligence and dexterity if ur a caster. And if you do choose storm or earth build up the earth enchantment/ storm nimbus trees as they are essential to ur damage output. Also find somebody experienced to team up with. They might even give you some better gear

Glad you enjoy the game. And I hope you don't give up because I think it will be rewarding to beat him..

Yeah experiment with plague. It is a good skill to use both offensively and defensively. Most of the effects are percent which means it just gets better in the higher difficulties.

Plague - necessary for % life reduction (not sure if boss affected they have so much life and its not like 50% or something anyhow plus I think they have a resist to it. Also necessary for duration to give you time to apply another skill and extends the duration of fatigue and susceptibility. Use this against mobs when you are at a mexican stand off with them...the plague will help you break it and all the monsters will stay plagued if you have enough points in duration because when one loses plague another will pass it back to him.

Fatigue - Small chance to do Huge % life reduction but more importantly reduces total speed of enemies by a % and the damage they do by a flat and I think a percent. The defensive part of plague. Helps keep wolves alive.

Susceptibility - Increasing damage to physical damage and elemental.....Max this since you are doing fragments and fire damage:mischief:

The plague tree is better in legendary where the oponents get so strong that only extreme builds (unbalanced) can kill everything with ease. But a 12,12,12 plague can even rock mobs in act 5 Legendary. I haven't noticed it extremely good at boss but I have most experience with an illusionist and she kinda struggles at bosses.
