2 Annoyances re: NPC dialog & using Powers etc.

Post by Tartan »

Two things keep cropping up that really keep me from enjoying this fine game as much as I could.

1. The game does not pause during unsolicited NPC dialogue. So many times a quest-related NPC or one of my party members decides to chit-chat with me right as I'm about to get pounced on by a bunch of monsters. They sputter out about 5 words then get interrupted. With quest-related NPC it's not such a big deal, since most times you can just click on them again later to have the same conversation (more or less). With NPCs in my party, I lose out on hearing what they have to say since the script only triggers once and I don't have the option of initiating conversation with them (afaik). Is there any way to get the game to automatically pause during NPC dialogue...or a way to replay dialogue that was interrupted?

2. Fairly regularly the game engine takes it's gold ol' time responding to my command to use a power. This happens frequently enough that I've just come to accept that if one of my guys is below half life, he won't be standing any more when my finely executed save-the-day power actually goes off. It doesn't seem to matter if I use hotkeys or click on the icons, the icon highlights, showing that the command was input and accepted...it just seems to have very little relation to when the game will actually decide to let the power activate. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I should specifically avoid while using powers to keep them from stalling? (Things like being too far from your target, or your target dying before getting into range are obvious, even to me.)

Some Powers require you to aim

I don't know which powers you are having problems with, but some powers require 2 steps to use. Step 1 is to activate the power, Step 2, a cross hair pops up on the screen and you have to right click a target to use the power.

Nah, it's things like Staggering Blow and Staggering Kick that are particularly problematic for me.

There's a mod out there that makes NPC dialogue pause the game. At least, IIRC.
