Strange drop tendency
Ok, now I've had Battlemage circlet drop 3 times in half an hour in epic egypt! Is this normal? As far as I know drops are random, but this is kinda too much? Does this happen often that the same item drop that often?
Did I just roll 1 on a save vs. death? DANG! *>.<
It appears random but it isn't really random. Much like you can get heads twice on consecutive coin flips sometimes you get the same item. But of course its partly because a seed is chosen which determines what items you get. You can close and open the game to get a new seed. The fanpatch supposedly randomizes the loot more, but people still notice eh 'coinicidences' a lot.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
That's what random means, though. If a coin lands on heads 10 times in a row, what are the chances it will land on heads again? Still the same, 50/50. Getting that drop 3 times was a coincidence, nothing more.
Side note: I always felt TQ should have treated uniques as Diablo II did: uniques can only drop once per game session, therefore, the longer you played, the higher your chance of getting a new unique item.

Yeah flix I was trying to make 2 points. 1 is that random is random. Its possible to have some strange results.
But the second point is that a computer is not random it just tries to make it appear that way. The loot is generated from a single seed which is determined when you load the game up. So there is NO possibility of the loot being random and only the possibility that it appears random.

Ok i get it It's like i thought... "Random"... And as Flix said, that means that even if I find an item once the chances of me finding it again are the same as they were before? Right?
But It's just kinda dissapointing when you find the same legendary item over and over again... Woulda been nice with other parts of the set xD - even though the set looks kinda not worth finding >.< -

Yes pretty much random. But sometimes you will find 2 rare prefix amulets with identical stats on the same runs....and the reason is possibly not (though can't prove this) a coincidence, but rather possibly because they are calling the same item from the seed.
In other words the chance of an item is determined by the seed and the seed is constant until you close the game and re-open it.

Ah, I see. I didn't even know quite how the seed concept worked. Is it like that for most any of the action RPG's, or is it unique to Titan Quest? But the second point is that a computer is not random it just tries to make it appear that way. The loot is generated from a single seed which is determined when you load the game up. So there is NO possibility of the loot being random and only the possibility that it appears random.
Its like that for most (all?) action RPGs but for Titanquest many people feel they were fairly unsuccessful at making it seem random in some cases.
For example I remember one thread where no less than four people reported that the only two sacred amulets they found were both of Might and the strength bonus was the same for all of those four people. If I recall correctly at least. Not a scientific result to say the least, but just expressing sometimes it doesn't feel that random.
Then there is the phenomenon where some people feel they can tell whether their seed is "good" or "bad". If it is good then they might farm hydra for longer until they decide it is bad. I kind of poo poo that theory, but I don't know for sure.
The problem is caused because computers have a hard time generating random numbers. They generate numbers from something that is stored in the computer and all the information stored in the computer is stored based on the computers programming I guess which means it is not random. But it can appear random. And actually a coin or dice is not actually random if you think about it. The physics determines how it will land. From that standpoint I feel a computer is random enough.
