Compass problem

The compass, which is a highly useful minimap, seems to show some buggy behaviour. Sometimes I see enemies as red spots while items and as blue(which is quite beneficial while playing). But this happens only sometimes and continues as I play. But when I restart the game I don't see those red marks again. Yet they reappear a few times afterwards and disappear in the next game. What's the problem? Is there anything I can do to fix it?
