First Aid and supporting skills

Post by Omnicron »

Hi all :)

So far I've really enjoyed Mass Effect, level 45 and almost done with my first play through. Unfortunately the game manual doesn't really explain much :(

I understand that for things like Electronics you use the skill thats highest in your party, not your individual skill, when salvaging etc. I assume this is the same for First Aid, that when you use a Medigel it used the highest skill in your party to determine how much is healed.

However what is not clear is whether supporting skills will complement one another. Lets say I am an Engineer and I take Medicine to max which reduces the cooldown of First Aid by 30%. But I dont max First Aid, rather I let Ashley spend her point there, and then I also have Liara and I max out her Asari Scientist which causes First Aid to heal an additional 70 points of damage. Will all these things stack?
Hence will I heal 180+70hp (Ashley's skill + Liara's Bonus) which cools down faster (my Medicine)?

Thanks :)

I think that for First Aid, the total of your active squad is used: i.e., you add the numbers together for all the First Aids, apply Liara's bonus to the regen time, and also your Medicine bonus. So, yes, you will heal 250 HP which cooldown 36% faster. (Ashley's skill + Liara's and her cooldown + your Medicine.)
I'm not sure wether the the % in cooldown add up or are multiplied, but I think they simply add up.

What??? Wow! Didn't think your skills would stack in that way (Ammount first aid skill heals between party members). That would be awesome! Big Advantage to having Kaiden in your party then if it will jump your First Aid recharge to 60%

So then, if you take an engineer and turn him/her into a medic (+80 hp healed 21% faster cooldown) and then take Liara and Kaiden maxing First Aid (180hp healed) and Medicine (30% faster cooldown) where applicable you will heal (180x3)+70+80 = 690hp with a 81% faster cooldown

But then surely your electronics skill will also stack for repairing the Mako?

Thanks A lot! :)

Electronics does not stack.
Prima's Official Strategy Guide says about First Aid:
"Values from squad member's First Aid Talents and Medicine Talents also improve Shephard's Heal Squad ability by increasing the amount healed and the talent's recharge time."

Personally, I'd never be an Engineer AND take both Kaidan and Liara. :)

Should a mod read this: It was my intention to add this post to the one above. Accidentally quoted myself.

ah great thanks! :)

Agreed, it would be a difficult party to play, it was just for the sake of illustration :)

However the piece you quoted from Prima's Official Strategy Guide does not mean it stacks with your skill, it could simply mean you use the highest. Not sure why I didn't do this before, but will use one of my profiles that never made it past Eden Prime and experiment :) Will post the results

I won't go into semantics, but to me this looks very clear that everything adds up.

Awesome! Had a think about it and I came to agree. Tested it anyway and it is confirmed. It all adds up, which explains why I heal so much hp even though I never maxed First Aid with any one party member :)
Thanks for all your help
