Improved uncanny dodge?

Post by Raumoheru »

ive recently been playing a 29 Rogue 1 Shadowdancer build that utilizes Feint. I stealth to an enemy and open up with feint, and when hes dead I will use feint on my next enemy to get in some sneak attacks. Then I just re-stealth rinse and repeat.

now, Improved uncanny dodge says that the enemy is immune to sneak attacks because they retain their dexterity to AC.

Will I be able to sneak attack someone with improved uncanny dodge if I successfully use Feint on them or am I just screwed?

Improved Uncanny Dodge specifically references: *Flanking* (..aka getting behind your character for classical "backstabs".)

I don't know if this proves-out for Feint (i.e. not effecting Feint attacks), but I can say this:

With a nearly full level Rogue, pretty much the only thing that could NOT be flanked would be a nearly full level Barbarian (or a similar Rogue).

(see the "specifics" section for calculation):

I know what the feat does, it makes it so when normal characters lose their dexterity bonus to AC from being attacked by surprise or from an invisible attacker, a person with this feat does not.

my question is simply this : does it also prevent losing dexterity to AC after a successfull Feint?

..and my response is that it doesn't matter. ;) (..at least not with the build you used for example.)

Now if you only have perhaps 10 levels of Rogue.. :(

For the definitive answer to your question, my answer is that I don't know. HOWEVER:

You could test this with the "Battle of the Builds" against a similar high level rogue (or Barbarian if there is one). Make sure however that if it's against a high level Rogue that you have Bluff beyond their ability to Spot (which might require something different than the Rogue character you have proposed.. just for testing purposes).
