How to multiclass mz party??

Post by dzidek1983 »

So i'm currently playing with my elven warband, killing of the ice temple.
All characters are at 9th level.
I have a:
1 - fighter
2 - druid
3 - ranger
4 - bard
5 - rogue
6 - wizard

I don't want to gimp my spellcasters so i'm not currently planing on multiclassing bard, wizard or druid.
The fighter is my decoy in plate armour and tower shield. Buti can't dual him to paladin, wrong alginment.
The ranger is skilled two wepon fighter in leather armour but high dex.
The rogue is an archer with low strength.

All my characters are elves so there will be a hefty xp penelty once i select to multiclass.

The problem is i can't see any option to multiclassing my fighter. The only resonable answer is to take barbarian for higher HP and rages.

The ranger after level 10 (3rd favourite enemy) is a option for at least 4 levels of fighter, but what next?

Same story with the rogue, maybe fighter or maybe wizard?

You should know that your party's average character level will be lower than 17 at the end of the game, so there are at most 6-7 extra levels to give for your characters. There's also no need for multiclassing, you won't become much stronger by doing so.

For your rogue an option is taking 4 fighter levels so you can get weapon specialisation, for low strength low damage characters +2 to damage can make a big difference.
If you think your casters need some support casting low level spells take wizard levels, take a specialist for more spells per day, a transmuter with high alchemy skill can be useful for a quest later in the game, you can also take the envenom weapon feat.
But keep in mind that you'll be a caster 10 levels lower than he's supposed to be and that you'll need spell scrolls for learning. Only buffs and protection spells will be useful, low level attack spells at low casting level won't do much damage.

Rangers get level 2 spells at level 10, but need 12 wis to cast them. An option is raising wis (at level up or with equipment) and multiclassing this character with cleric. The level 1 spell bless will give +1 to hit for the whole party, level 2 will also allow some buff spells, you can also use cleric scrolls and wands.
Another option is taking 4 or more fighter levels, +2 to damage for weapon specialisation will help your low strength low damage character.
If you don't multiclass with cleric raise only strength at level up, it's essential for doing physical damage, the same applies to your rogue and every other character.

For the fighter you can take 3 barbarian levels for faster speed and rage.

well i was thinking about going pure fighter or fighter10/barb20
rage without tireless is imho not to good and i don't know if hte other feats are worth a 20% exp penalty

the ranger is a must dualing to a fighter it will probably end at ranger10/cleric4/fighter16

the rogue will mix with a fighter and wizard for rogue20/wizard8/fighter2

what do you think?

It doesn't make sense distributing 30 levels when you only reach level 16 before the game is over.

For more ranger levels you'll mainly get higher level spells, but since this requires high wisdom and strength raises are needed far more for combat, fighter levels will yield the same benefit and bonus feats. You can't get both 4 cleric and 4 fighter levels.

For your rogue you can't afford to the last 6 levels among three different classes. Either take all remaining 6 levels for spellcasting or none.
If you take fighter levels take at least 4 for weapon specialisation, if you take less a single barbarian or ranger level will offer more benefits than a free feat.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep thew party pure class either.

At level 16 the game is finished.
How do you level up when the game is over ?

The level cap is 30 but that doesn't mean you'll reach it.

If you replay the game at HoF difficulty you'll get close to level 30, but I don't think it's worth crippling your first game for the next.
