Thank you for the tips on saving games... I really should have adopted this method.

Could anyone tell me then why the cheat window won't open?

Does anyone know what I'm doing incorrectly?
Honestly though now with the official patch and the G3 fixpack I rarely have major issues even though I have anywhere from 4-10 Mods running at once.
If you dont have mentioned by Jordoo official patch and [url="http://www.gibberlings3.net/bg2fixpack/"]G3 fixpack[/url] then you should get those a s a p.

Now.. as for those cheats. Be sure to add Debug Mode=1 exacly as i have writen, as a new line (note that there is no pause between Mode, = and 1). Double check if you have added it in correct place, under [Program Options] and not anything else. Trust me, its easy to make a mistake there.

This is an exact copy and paste from my baldur.ini file.

Keep in mind I just removed the "s" from Cheat=1 and it still didn't work when I tried to activate the cheat window.

Erm.. Your baldur.ini seems to lack quite a bit (unless im wrong?) :speech:

This is my.. [Program Options] alone!

Have you ran through configuration? (im not sure if it matters..)
I cant think of anything else to help you im affraid. Maybe its not possible to enable debug mode on.. some versions of BG2? Unpatched ones? No idea. Sorry.

Edit : Make sure to use LEFT Ctrl with space

Edit 2 : Try removing the cheat=1 line completely (leave just the Debug mode one), and see if it will work then.

Here is what I think is wrong.

I had to move the baldur.ini file originally from the SoA folder because it kept giving me an error message when I tried to save the file.

Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\baldur.ini file
Make sure that the path and file name are correct.

That is the error message that pops up.

When I hit "ok" the save as window pops open.

baldur.ini already exists.
Do you want to replace it?

I hit "yes" the first error message pops open.

So I tried moving the original baldur.ini file to My Documents and it gave me this message.

You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this file.

Then it says you need to give Windows premission to move the file. You hit yes and it moves the file.

I have no idea what to do now because I tried copying your ini file as my own and the cheat window still doesn't open. It looks as though I'm going to either start from the Windspear Hills mission to rescue the daughter from Firkraag again... or start all over with a brand new party...

I don't know... :( :(

No, no, you cant just copy and paste the part that i gave you, for its incomplete and it has my settings in it -which may not work on your PC-. Its just the [Program Options] part, and it has overall configuration there, you cant just move it. (i showed mine, just to show how short your baldur.ini file is)
You'll need to provide administrator permission to move this file.
You have Vista? Download the patches for sure before doing anything, BG gave me hard time on Vista when unpatched.

If you messed with Baldur.ini too much, you might be forced to re-install.

Also, instead of "Save as.." use "Save" or "Save changes".
Edit : and always have administrator account and permissions active when using Vista.. Otherwise you will encounter problem after problem.

Thanks again for the help.

Could you please provide me with the appropriate links to the necessary patches?

I've had no luck pulling up a cheat menu... and I can't get this ruddy door unlocked. I really don't want to start over again...

So you are using Vista?
Vista has a funky think called VirtualStore. Programs cannot write to the Program Files unless they are "run as administrator". You should be able to go into your BG2 directory and click on the button that says compatibility files. The baldur.ini in that new directory is the one the game should be using. It is probably ignoring the one in program files. This problem can be avoided by installing games under C:\Users\Public\Games. This directory is not protected like Program Files, so you don't have to worry about the same file in different spots. The downside to this approach is that each user has to use the same settings for the game (unless the game has it's own profiles system). After all, the users are all sharing those same game files.

Worked like a charm!

Thank you... now for some strange reason, the only time that I can see my portraits or menu bars is when I pause gameplay. I can't seem to figure out what hotkey will bring that back up.
