Just to reiterate, Diablo is not an RPG.
Just cause you play a game with armor and swords in it, doesnt mean you're playing an RPG.
Its more like a FPS in the middle ages. I cringed when I saw the NWN and Oblivion comparison.
Great game, cant wait for part 3, but RPG: No.

Diablo is an Action RPG. Nowhere close to an FPS. Hell, it's not even first person to begin with, so it's most definitely not an FPS.

This topic makes me laugh, because Diablo 3 has been announced and other than Starcraft: Ghost, Blizzard seems to be fairly reliable in releasing decent games.

Anyways, Diablo isn't an RPG in the traditional sense, but in some ways it IS an rpg. I think Action RPG is the way to describe it mostly. Hack n' Slash if you wanna call it that.

People at Blizzard aren't total morons, they won't screw up D3.

I don't doubt it'll be a solid and well formed game, but the mechanics of attributes and items requiring attributes will be a disappointment if they stay the course.

Part of diablo and diablo 2 was the simple fact that your character had a generic title and allowed you full control over just exactly how it's built. Autoleveling ability scores takes away from that. Removing item requirements takes away from the simple constraints your character must have and work to overcome.

I don't think items requiring attributes of a certain level is bad. If something is heavier, a weak person can't use it, simple as that.

I agree with your second paragraph though, I hadn't heard about this autoleveling until recently. Is it going to be toggle-able? If we can't control our character growth we may as well not buy this game.

It's been said that companies don't listen to players and then argued back at by that most players are idiots, but if they totally ignore good reasonable ideas just because they are cocky MORONS that think they do everything right and WoW is the pinnacle of gaming then they need to get their asses kicked.

Actually, my statement was referring to the fact that weapons in Diablo 3 WON'T have attribute requirements and I find that horribly wrong.

It's not developed enough to know just yet, but if it isn't, then I probably won't buy it.

Role-playing game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm not sure the correct title for Diablo or Diablo 2 except a "Run around and kill stuff game."

There are several implications that Diablo 3 will exist, but because we don't know anything for sure, there's an equal chance that it won't exist, or that it may become a full fledge MMORPG.

Now, I did like the diablo series, I didn't love it, I wasn't addicted, I liked it. Adding a story and flavor to it would be nice, it'd definitely catch my attention. But if they make it another of the same ol' same ol', or worse, an MMORPG, Blizzard has lost pretty much all my respect.

From what I've seen, the MMO's of today are really not at all appealing, most of it is just running around and killing things, most commonly going player versus player, which I despise.

If they do decide to create an RPG of Diablo, then they've "woo'd" me, and nothing more. I've never really been impressed with diablo, but that's just me.

So I'm leaving my vote for your poll pretty much undecided, for reasons of the above, as well as the neutral vote you presented also does not have RPG's aside from -maybe- fallout.
correct title is > hack 'n slash
