Depends on the chapter. I think most of the chapters have at least one market to buy food items from. The waitress at the taverns sell food as well.

That said you are far better off making potions, swallow for example as they regenerate far more health with less investment. In a hard fight with multiple critters a well timed use of swallow can save your behind. When you get it White Raffard's Decoction is literally a lifesaver, watch that toxicity though.

its confusing making potions if i eat loads of food at once will that make my health go up faster than if only took one piece of food
