a consistent bug?

Post by mistered »

It always happens after I ask my companions to "stand your ground". My spellcaster always casts spells on his companions no matter my intention is to cast on himself.

I hope that it isn't a bug because it is annoying and make me stay away from playing cleric/wizard.

When you cast the spells, do you have the spellcaster focussing on himself by right clicking on his portrait? Or do you have another charcter targetted as a result of right clicking on them to select stand your ground?

a bug?

Well. It is not HOW I CASTED a spell. Since When I just clicked a spell ( ex: bull strength ), my character ran immediately to his companion and casted the spell.

It's not that I just played the game yesterday. I played both OC and MotB several times.
Your counter question means that you haven't either this bug or paid attention to it.

I think you misunderstood mr_sir. To cast any targeted buff, you first need to select the target of that spell by right clicking on the desired character's portrait/avatar. So, try right clicking on your own portrait before casting the desired buff.

Go into the character sheet behavior tab and remove the ability the ability to cast spells completely for that character. It doesn't remove spell-casting ability, but rather the AI's use of spell-casting for that character.

Alternatively just select "puppet" mode and it won't do anything unless you "tell" it to (..i.e. it effectively disables ALL the AI behavior for that character).

IF neither of those work, then it most certainly is a bug. ;) (..otherwise it's just an over-active AI.)

I have played the OC many times, and always with some combination of spellcasting class as I hate pure melee builds. I've never come across a bug where the caster always casts on his companions. When this happens it is always because I have accidentally right clicked on the companion (thus targetting it) before I cast the spell. Before casting the spell, right click anywhere on the ground to clear your target selection. If the problem still occurs then it is a bug. If it doesn't, then its the problem that I have highlighted.

Also, before you dismiss my answer with the simple sentence of "I played both OC and MotB several times", is this the first time you have played with a caster as your main character? If it isn't and this problem has never occured before (and scott's solution doesn't work), you may need to reinstall. Further, is your game fully patched? Have you got any mods running or made any changed to the game other than official patches. Have you been experimenting with console commands using the debugmode?
