Dragon Age: Origins Easter Eggs w/ Spoilers

Post by BuckGB »

I thought I'd get a thread going to see what easter eggs we can find in Dragon Age: Origins, and will start it off with two of my own. I'll try to leave the descriptions as vague as possible, but you should still consider this spoiler content:

- At the end of the Unbound quest (codex entry #319), you'll do battle with a spirit named... Gaxkang. An obvious tribute to our buddy from Baldur's Gate II, Kangaxx the lich.

- You'll kill a lot of cultists in the village of Haven during the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest, so I guess that's why there's a graveyard on a return visit. Two of the tombstones read "In loving memory of multiplayer" and "Great-great-great-grandfather Gygax".

Anybody else have any to contribute?

I'm not sure that they're easter eggs but an obvious one is when you're about to transition to a different area, the game asks you "Gather your party and venture forth?" which is an obvious refrence to the message from the Baldur's Gate series "You must gather your party before venturing forth."

One of the loading screen said: "If all else fails, go for the eyes!" which is a reference to a battle cry from Minsc, the ranger from the Baldur's Gate series: "Go for the eyes Boo, GO FOR THE EYES!! RrraaaAAGHGHH!!!"

The statement on the wall just inside the entrance to Soldier's Peak is signed by a lot of names, some of them rather funny and some that I believe are references to other things.

My trusty wardog brought me a pair of pantaloons :D
I think I'll keep them, who knows what they can be used for in DragonAge 2
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I sensed that, too. :D Given the affinity BioWare staff for having put their developers' names in the game content, I have no doubt there's a correlation there.

What are some of those names? They might trigger a memory or two.

I didn't want to write down the entire list, but some of the more amusing names:

Chair-Thrower Lopez
Dustin the Colour-blind
Ebenger of the Bovine Brethren
Farrell the Feral

and the last being my favourite:

Jason sans les Argonauts

:D

And these are signatures on a statement declaring war on the kingdom or some such.

No, nothing there.

On the other hand, the Tower of Ishar is probably a reference to the trio of great Ishar RPGs that were years ahead of their time, with party members you could acquire that had different alignments, different goals, and their own comments. It was pretty much the way the BG series went, several years later.

i was traveling from orzammer to the lake docks and a meteor fell out of the sky. a man and woman were looking at the impact crater saying "i don't know how a child could survive that. 5 finger and toes. our prayers are answered. let's go home marta." i found a superman cutscene.

so where bruce wayne then? omg. maybe it's me. i am the human noble with family slain.

Inside a tavern in Denerim, there is a woman by the name of "Edwina", which could be the reference to Edwin's accident with the Nether Scroll in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn.

Spoiler warning!
Spoiler
When you rescue Anora, and she comes out dressed as a guard, one of the lines you can say is "Aren't you a little short for a guard?" (Leia against Luke-as-Stormtrooper, in ANH.)

I found a note in the Dead trenches in some rubble. It's a "poem" named: Load limit reached, and goes like this:

"Mass will have an effect" he says.
As long as it lifts us out, I figure
Should have specified "within my lifetime"
"give us time to talk" he says
"how's a dwarf get named Shepard?"
Up yer shaft.
"No really, because blah, blah, blah"
Axe answers, but I still hear him
Drip... ground
Drip... ground
Worse than his talking
Think I'll drop out for some air.
<worksoufy> man i need to eat
<Trak3r> that's "yoda" speak for "i need to eat a man"

If you send your dog off to look for something interesting at Flemeth's hut, he'll bring back a pair of Dirty Pantaloons, to which you can respond "Ah, you can never have enough pairs of Pantaloons."

In the Pearl, there's a guy standing by a door, whose name's Casavir. If I'm not mistaken, the paladin in NWN2 was named Casavir too...

Also, if you talk to the mistress and give her the "Surprise me" response, you may end up in a room with two nugs.
I may be drunk, krogan, but you're ugly. And tomorrow I'll be sober.

During the first part of the Gauntlet for the Urn of Andraste's Ashes, you have to answer the riddles of the spirits. One of them is "A lark might carry it, but a strong man might not. Of what do I speak?" One of the answers you can give it "A coconut." Obviously a reference to this.

dont know if this was added by patch 1.02 but i dont remember it from my other visits to Haven. In the area just past the rude guard is a graveyard with lots of names and quotes from the developers. There's even a tribute to Gary Gygax, may the stone keep him.
