Have you tried going into the Inventory page, scrolling using the arrows at the top to Morrigan's inventory, then right clicking on the Grimoire and selecting give gift? If that doesn't work, have you tried just talking to her?

You should give gifts to the corresponding party member.

The "correct" gifts give 5+n influence, while the others give n influence. Where n is a variable that starts with 5 and then goes down to 1 by 1 steps for every gift you give. So if you give someone presents, it could go like that:

1. correct gift - 10
2. other gift - 4
3. correct gift - 8
4. correct gift - 7
5. other gift - 1

After that point, all "correct" gifts give only +6, while all other gifts give +1. There seems to be a lot of gift which arent correct for anyone, though. And all dog bones etc are pretty much superflous, as dog has always 100% loyalty to you.

Theres also special gifts that give 10+n influence, like the grimoire.

I read Shale is a bit different than that, but as I didnt bothered loading her down, I dont know first hand.

Actually, it isn't so much as "correct" gift, so much as it is a gift that has special meaning.

MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT (Highlight to read)
Spoiler
These gifts have special significance, or are plot related (Flemeth's 2 grimiores, The amulet of Alistair's Mother), and as such give more than others.

For example: Giving Morrigan a Golden Ring won't make much difference (+1 to 5, and it diminishes), but the Gold Rope Necklace has more meaning (+6 to 10, also diminishes), and the Gold Mirror has even MORE meaning (Plot, starts conversation), and she will even come clean about the whole business about Jewelry.

For the others, Alistair like Magic, Wynne likes literature, Sten likes Art (?? I'd never have guessed), especially masterwork, Oghren likes drink, Lelianna likes religious items, and the Dog likes Bones & Balls (go figure). Ball is in the Brecillian Forest, btw. Oh, and Shale likes the Remarkable Gemstones.
