GameBanshee, Social Networking, and You

Post by BuckGB »

To be honest, I've paid little attention to the whole "social networking" craze that seems to have erupted over the last few years. It's become so prolific, though, that having an online presence beyond the gamebanshee.com domain is not only important, it's practically necessary.

As of right now, I have a personal page on Facebook, a GameBanshee page on Facebook, a GameBanshee feed on Twitter, and a GameBanshee channel on YouTube. I invite all of you to sign up and connect with me/us at any or all of these websites, if only to start building a devoted RPG community and then sit back and see where it takes us. The YouTube channel is of special importance, as it finally gives me a place to unload the hundreds of gigabytes worth of trailers that have been sent to me by PR agencies over the years. I've been uploading videos for several days straight now, and the uploads will continue for weeks and probably months to come as I do some serious catching up.

Anyway, I'll do my best to start logging in more often to all of these areas. If you happen to send any messages or friend requests, please mention that you're a member of GameBanshee so I know who you are :) .

Oh, and feel free to share your own social networking information in this thread if you'd like to connect with other members of the GameBanshee community!

UPDATE: There's now a fan page on Facebook, too!

Nice. Looks like I'll subscribe to the GB channel on Youtube. ;)
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

That picture is from the time I served in navy, so that explains the funny hat.

I've joined the Gamebanshee group on Facebook - good idea, Jon! :) I like the social aspects of internet, and I am probably the person on GB, at least SYM, that actually has met most other GB members IRL as a consequence of GB! :)

And before I leave Californication next summer, I am definitely planning on meeting at least one more in the cold realms of British Columbia...

I'm never joining Facebook due to concerns about it affecting my job career and future hiring decisions. I've had a YouTube account for a while, but it's not something I point people to often(and certainly not on this site).

You can shield what you make public on Facebook as much as you desire. On the long term, I think not participating in social networking sites will leave you out of the loop. This stuff is only going to get more omnipresent.

Don't believe the scare stories, your current and any prospective future employer can only find stuff on facebook your careless enough to let them. Simply don't put anything on there that can cause you problems, you control the data that's on there, anyone stupid enough to put things on FB that gets them fired, or causes them to not get a job, get what they deserve.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
