Right click on the game launcher icon and choose "run in administrator" mode. It works for games that support only dx9 in a dx10 os such as vista.

Oh, and welcome to the forums :D

Most Vista issues are either due to that intrusive User Account Control or not setting administrator privileges.

Probably the administrator thing. I can run DII in Vista. However, I did disable the User Account. What was MS thinking when they created that abomination? Me: "Let's Print." Vista before disabling User Account "PING! You moved the mouse. Are you sure you want to?" Me: "Yes". "PING! You leftclicked. Are you sure this is allowed by the administrator?" Me: "Yes". "PING! You've violated user's privileges. Please contact an admin."
It bears no doubt the thing got kicked out, fast.

QFT

Both Diablo's run fine on Vista with some basic tweaks.

Start> Programs>Diablo II, right click your Diablo II file go to properties, then Compatibility and run it in compatibility mode for Windows Xp (service pack 2)

That worked for me.
