Dragon Age: Awakenings Trailer

Post by Aqua-chan »

If you missed it on the News feed, the new trailer for the upcoming expansion pack Dragon Age: Awakenings is now up for your viewing pleasure. Keep in mind that this is an expansion pack, not merely a DLC, and will be the first add-on content that will be playable in the continuity after the slaying of the Archdemon.

Awakenings shows promise in that it will continue the adventures of the Warden (or give the player a chance to play as a new one, should the original player have died in endgame events), using final decisions to affect the story line.

Given that in the ending phases of Dragon Age most of the various NPCs go their separate ways, it's good to know Awakenings will introduce new companions. I know of nothing officially, but there is talk that certain various NPCs from the past may also tag along (assuming they are not dead).

I find it amusing that the expansion pack itself will be roughly $40, whereas the game itself was $60. So in all, it had better be a pretty epic compilation - as in, not Warden's Keep. Thoughts?

I'm definitely pleased that there will be a proper expansion - I dislike the DLC trend, even if means that I can get 5 2hour long DLCs instead of one 10hour long expansion (for the same money) I still prefer the later since it 'feels' more like 'a new game' rather than a 'professional mod'. I hope we will see one or two more expansions - and especially new campaigns irrelevant to the main one (as in Neverwinter Nights for example)

I also kind of prefer this type of thing to the typical DLC trend. It looks like it might have the possibility of being pretty in depth. I'm basically worried though. I mean, am I gonna have to actually deal with the mess my Warden left behind now? I knew I shouldn't have taken the "screw the world up as much as possible" route.

For the price, it certainly needs to have a good amount of content to be justified. I'd hope the spiritual successor thing would extend to having an expansion that is at least as expansive as ToB was. Its definately something I'll keep an eye on.

Hahaha, in that movie I see the demon my warden let escape in exchange for 25,5 gold..
Looking forward to this expansion, I'll surely buy it!

I would like to see a continuation in the storyline and some Companions from DA:O to be used as quest related NPC's...and I honestly do hope for a substantial expansion of the game world, in order to experience first hand many of the exotic references of the game's lore...

But to tell you the truth...that "sentient darkspawn" twist...I kinda saw it coming, it wasn't that original! (unlike the Mask of the Betrayer expansion for NVWN2 for example)
I guess that's the price to pay if we want a direct continuation of the storyline.

PS: If I remember correctly from the lore, a "talking darkspawn" should not be something extraordinary(as it is presented on the trailer)! I remember reading that the Emissaries had the ability to speak...maybe not the ability to be independend from an Archdemon though...

Having seen the trailer it makes me wonder what events from Origins can be considered canon. Of course it's possible that Awakenings changes based on those, but I guess we'll have to wait to find that out.

But here's what I think the trailer suggests has happened.
Spoiler
Alistair's featured and from one of his lines, "I kinda miss the whole Darkspawn killing thing", it suggests that he becomes king. His armour is also rather grand! That would also suggest he's not the returning character.

So if Alistair is King I would imagine that Loghain was executed, removing the Loghain sacrifice ending, as Alistair leaves if Loghain becomes a Warden, and also removes the Alistair ending.

Since you can import you're character, that only leaves the Dark Ritual ending in place.

As I said it might all be dependent on your previous decisions, but having a child with the essence of an Old God would seem to be the stuff of sequels.
Anyways, just some thoughts I was having!
Don't think you know all the answers.

Spoiler-ific!

Also, there is a new origin as an Orlesian Grey Warden, so the Ultimate Sacrifice ending is still available.

import saved games from Origins to carry over decisions, taking all possible endings into account. however since most of the game will take place in new areas and it's unlikely many of the old ones will be visitable don't expect to see far reaching consequences of all the possible choices, likely just the major ones

if you sacrifice yourself to end the Blight you can still import your decisions but must create a new character, a Warden from Orlais

Rather than create a new thread, I thought it would make sense to post this here.
I just came across a fairly detailed article on the expansion.
