Favorite Character/Class, and a thank you.
Hi!
First the Thank You. I've been reading the forum since November of last year. I bought DL years ago, but at the time didn't realize I didn't have the graphics card to play it. *bad words* Last November hubby bought me a laptop with an nvidia graphic card and *ta-da*! So I started to play. I'm obsessed. I want to say thank you to those of you that have obsessed even more than I have, and put out those walkthroughs, spoiler maps and character editors!! What *fun*! I can't stand to play a game that I get hung up on and can't go any further. If there aren't cheats out there, I likely won't play it. Sue me. ..and thanks to each of you that have asked your questions and I've soaked up the answers. There are some really dedicated and helpful people in this forum!! So thanks, folks!
But now, to my dilema!
I've played the game as a Fighter/Marauder/Mage/Shugenia/Shadow Lord,
and an
Adept/Paladin/Mage/Enchantress/War Witch, and enjoyed both characters.
But it irks me that a) I've never been able to get into Seth's Safehouse, and b) never been quested to help Feros Duul, thus never had the Summon Fiend spell. I thought I would, because I've taken both mage classes, but I guess they only ask you to do that after you've done your 2nd tier mage quest?
So, I'm thinking of trying the Rogue/Mage/SomethingRogue/SomethingMage and then 3rd level something else. But that rules out Enchantress and War Witch, both of which I REALLY liked.
Was there a character build that YOU really enjoyed playing? Something that you thought was most fun? I loved the Marauder because it gave the light dual weapons and the heavy equipment, and the Enchantress/War Witch for all the magic bonus' she gets. But it seems I can't have light dual weapons, heavy armor, seth's safehouse AND bunches of magic bonus! I want it ALL!!!!!
Should I give up the heavy equipment, and go for the rogue/mage build? Any of the Eastern House characters that you really enjoyed playing?
I do hope there are still people that are playing. I tend to obsess for YEARS on a game. I *still* play Jagged Alliance.......*heh* ..and that came out years and years and YEARS ago.
Happy Playing!

Yes, Feros Duul is the Mages Guild intermediate quest. But it irks me that a) I've never been able to get into Sleth's Safehouse, and b) never been quested to help Feros Duul, thus never had the Summon Fiend spell. I thought I would, because I've taken both mage classes, but I guess they only ask you to do that after you've done your 2nd tier mage quest?
But.
Nether Spells can be created by anyone by simply mixing the proper ingredients. These could be looked up, I think, perhaps somewhere on GameBanshee?
Once you've got the Summon Fiend spell sorted, do it again and add a second soulstone, and a monkey paw.
'SomethingRogue' can be rather painful. There is no proper stealth involved anywhere in the game, Sneak only adds a hit bonus for enemies you aren't face-to-face with. If you want to have a second tier rogue class, you may want to choose the less self-crippling Trickster over the horribly underwhelming Hunter. Bear in mind that when your summoned minions fight for you, you'll need to hit (and damage) any monster that you want experience from at least once. So, I'm thinking of trying the Rogue/Mage/SomethingRogue/SomethingMage and then 3rd level something else. But that rules out Enchantress and War Witch, both of which I REALLY liked.
There's that thing called editor. Almost all of my characters are at least members of the Celestial Order, to get access to some nifty crystals; I don't always use multiplayer to pass things on to new characters. Was there a character build that YOU really enjoyed playing? Something that you thought was most fun? I loved the Marauder because it gave the light dual weapons and the heavy equipment, and the Enchantress/War Witch for all the magic bonus' she gets. One of my favourite combinations is Dwarf Mage/Adept/Sorcerer/Paladin/Wizard. For Female characters, it's probably Mage/Adept/Sorcerer/Valkyrie/WarWitch but I do find their learning boni a little too much.
What I do sometimes is to start a 'run' for certain sets of armour:Should I give up the heavy equipment, and go for the rogue/mage build? Any of the Eastern House characters that you really enjoyed playing?
Rather than reloading before opening chests, I grab what I find of the set(s) I'm looking for, and pass the pieces on to the next character, until all sets I'm looking for are complete.
If you have any useful or favoured non-relic item, you can always pass it on via multiplayer.
As far as the Eastern Houses go, I'm none too fond of them. The main drawback about them is that you can't reach third tier before the Trials of the Elders. The Samurai is quite a good mêlée character, if only the game wasn't so geared to spamming enemies in packs that require blasting to preserve one's sanity.
You learn something new everyday...
I'll learn how to use this editor one day...maybe.
I didn't realize that I had to get a hit in to earn experience for damage done by summoned creatures! Thanks. I'll remember that. I do usually summon and then stand (safely) back and ping away...
As for the fiend spell, I *have* added it myself, but I've felt like I was *gasp* CHEATING, so didn't feel that I really deserved it. Atleast, not until I attempted the that big Fiend of G in ToS and HE summoned a fiend. Atleast then I could justify adding it, thinking that with enough time, my character might have figured it out.
I don't go into the Trial of the Elders until I can kill that danged Magician/Wizard at the end. The first time around I was so frustrated that I couldn't kill him I had to start all over!! After that I learned to pick up a few spells that work on distant enemies before going in.
Agreed, those Adept crystals are nice to have. I'd try Adept/Rogue, but seriously, that seems like such an unbelievable mix--"I'll heal you but I'm just as likely to steal all your gold!" Hmmmm........doesn't seem that incongruent from reality when put that way...*heh*
I've never played multiplayer--something to look forward to with future characters!! I hope people are still playing by then!
(And the Samurai, I thought it looked great, too, but I wanted the heavy armor, so went with Marauder.. Maybe I'll have to try Fighter/Samauri/Mage/Sorcerer/Wizard sometime...?? Hmmmm....No Celestial Crystals...............Adept/Monk/Mage/Sorcerer/Wizard?? No heavy armor.. Love the Arcane and Nether Magic..)
Definitely time for a new character..

I like the Wizard class the best, you’re basically indestructible and nothing is a challenge, because you’re too OP. At lvl 30, with 30 in Arcane and 10 in Spellfire I killed the last boss with 2 casts of Cataclysm, less then 10 seconds. I have 4 saved games atm, I’ll list the classes for you, I hope they help you. Most of the classes are fun anyway. I like using the Mage for all my classes for the arcane Nova spells, (crowd control.) And I also like to use woman, (Sisterhood) for the extra quests and 11th Heraldry too, (Angel.:angel Protection from Death. Heraldry is purely up to you, but I’ll list what I have anyway.

I haven’t used the editor or the multiplayer cheats. But the game is pretty easy, even on hard and more settings, for me anyway.
I hope in DL 2 they get a little more creative with there magic classes, more element based. Fire Wizards, Death Warlocks, Frost Witches… Element classes that do increased damage while/using their specific element.
Hope this helps you, have fun.

Magic specialization..
I decided on the
Adept
Mage
Sorcerer
Monk
(And haven't decided on third, but leaning heavily to the Shaolei Master for the Rune Magic Bonus, but a very close second, the Wizard for that Spellfire..)
Eventually I'll try the
Adept
Mage
Enchantress
Sorcerer
Wizard
and since I loved the light dual weapons so much I may go back to
Fighter/Marauder and try for the DeathLord again, but the I gave up the last time I tried, getting level 10 on Shields, Weapons and Armor was really tough.. I chose Adept/Enchantress, but if I try the Adept/Val that might work..
Thanks for the response!

So you don't do the "Rogue/Mage/SomethingRogue/SomethingMage and then 3rd level something else"? That's unfortunate, because you could be rogue/mage/hunter/SomethingMage/ranger lord! I played such a character waaaaaaaay back on version 1.4, and in fact, that character has become legendary to me. He was a Zaur called "Fox Mulder" (yes, named after the guy from FBI), heavily used mountain climbing to shortcut almost anything, skipped two thirds of the main quest and just went on to do the class ascension quests. With that character I didn't even do the main Fargrove storyline. Instead, I got a moonstone prior to visiting Fargrove for the first time and then just teleported out of there leaving the Davenmor quests unfinished. So I ran around doing the ascension quests and IIRC I also decided to already finish Draedoth Temple just for the heck of it. And then...I decided on the

... then there was the Ranger Lord ascension quest. From the reading of the game guide at Game Banshee I knew that this is the only ascension quest in the entire game that features a female boss (except the Sisterhood quests which only a female character can experience, and there is no female Zaur race in this game). So I was looking forward to this boss, and guess what, she is so sweet that I fell in love with her and couldn't bring myself to kill her. This means I never completed that character but since then, every time I see a Zaur or someone mentions the word "Zaur" (or even if I see something that looks similar, for example Shrek) it brings back sweet memories.
That is, maybe you would like it too, so I encourage you to give it a try! You'll also gain access to Sleth's safehouse and you can "uncurse" Feros Duul which will change his dialogue lines from "Come back if you need more nether magic and pay the gold" to "Come back if you need more nether magic, my friend". And last but not least, the ranger lord class will grant a unique ability that no other class has access to.
Have fun!

This has potential. I've just now found my SECOND (yes..*2nd* I didn't think that was possible. I prefer the Black, myself.. Found that, too, but earlier..grrr..) Deathlord chest armor, and it's ticking me off that I can't use it. *heh*
Mage/Rogue/Battlemage/Hunter/RangerLord sounds...interesting. I think I might give it a go after I've finished this one. I may even play whatever character I need to to get that hammer from the Weapons Guy in Skuldoon!
Thanks for your suggestion, fred.. :mischief:

That would have to be Thrall, Zaur, Urgoth or Wylvan, and the Urgoth is bugged in version 1.5 unless one is using my fix. I'd recommend using the Zaur .I may even play whatever character I need to to get that hammer from the Weapons Guy in Skuldoon!

try this
you might try a thrall adept/mage/celestial/battlemage/warlock for more than just to spam blast nova's of death. you could use it to get powerful minions and if you want to use celestial spells you get hp back from doing damage so go fight a dragon and get whacked by the fireballs all u want while casting lightning. it might be slow but you will never die, and more op would be to cast drain life spell while having the drain life talent for double drain lifes seems as good as a wizard with 1m cataclysms
p.s. disregard that i think i might break out the game to do it myself just to see how it does

I'm an Elf (the kind that looks undead) with a bit of a strange mix.
I wanted to play the game more melee on harder difficulties so I went:
Rogue
Fighter
Trickster
Samurai
Cabalist
Maxed out attack speed with heraldries and advancement points as well as dexterity and agility bonuses to parry and strike to make up for the fact I have low armour. This prevents me from being hit almost completely. Then 15 in arcane and life steal some points in nether and 10 points in wounds.
Weilding bladerlic of flame and the elven blood sword (because it wounds and my character will only use swords LOL).
I begin combat by casting a couple of wind gusts through the crowd (with lifesteal this means if I do lose health it will just regen) and begin to hack away, wounds immobilizing enemies, parry blocking their attacks, life automatically restoring itself, it pretty much makes you invincible.
It's the only low vitality melee set i've found to be truly viable without menu pauses so far.

Going Again!
Thanks for your enthusiasm with this game.
I'm excited to start another playthrough.
I finished the game with this character:
***Female Elf magic user:
Adept
Fighter
Enchantress
Monk
Shaolei Master
-Heraldries
The Tiger
The Protector
The Master
The Angel
The Four Winds
The Noble
I truly wanted a War Witch, but my poor planning precluded that class.
She favours the Celestial lightning crystal and the Nether blade of Baal rune. She also cleans up with the Celestial crystals solar ray and divine strike and with the Nether rune pain sting. Her mood altering and summoning skills are quite developed as well.
I really want to go in a different directions for this playthrough. I'm just starting a Zaur specializing in archery and ranged weapons. I hope to avoid magic as much as possible-- and no bartering. Ranger Lord, here I come!
I love this game.

Mage/rogue/something rogue/something mage/something
I have a thrall mage/rogue/trickster/shugenja/cabalist going in the works. Its not a power class but 3 learning bonuses to nether is actually not too bad assuming there is any benefit to learning nether; nether magic itself is quite powerful. And then nice mage talents also. Light armor/weapons can be overcome by using a lot of bloodlust (potion 100 gp also nether spell) and debuffs. And tough encounters blast novas and so forth.
Some things I have discovered about nether is to burn like 10 copies of summon rats because the ketals are rather cheap. Then you have about 30 rats running amock as a distraction. Its pretty hilarious to see the Fathien guards assaulted by rats haha.
To get the mage quest you could sub in sorceror for shugenja.

Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.
glad to see u like the summons. i hope u know you have to do at least 1 point of damage to each mob before your summons kill it or you dont get loot or experience. also deathlord is bugged and will randomly crash your game so dont use it.Claudius wrote:Mage/rogue/something rogue/something mage/something
