Guess I was left out of the loop on this one. Anyway, last night I cleared the mines with relative ease. Mostly kobolds as you know, the larger groups of them I used sleep and sling/magic missiles. Mulahay was a bit tougher. I used mirror image and blur then talked to him. One skull trap took care of his summoned minions then he landed a hold person on me. I, amazingly, was able to take the beating for the entire duration of hold, then I used magic missile, sling, magic missile and he dropped. He must have been hit with the skull trap as well. Grabbed my loot and bailed. Then I fought the three ladies outside of the mine exit. This fight I have NEVER beat first try, until now. I charmed one of them and used basically the same strategy to finish them off. Grabbed more loot and off I went. Killed the two assasins in nashkel and feldposts, sold some loot, bought some stuff and went adv enturing. I am now a level 6 with only three deaths under my belt, the two mentioned above and another stupid siren got me.Pellinore wrote:Can you SMELL what the mage.... is cookin'?

I'm like you in the sense that I track my deaths as well and try to do the best I possibly can.
I just played BG1 tutu for the first time a few months ago, using a 4 man man party with a cleric ranger as my PC.
I died 23 times throughout the entire game + expansion on the core rules difficulty. Something like 15 of those were before I even reached LVL 6/6. Of course...I did stumble into Durlag's before understanding that it was expansion pack material :speech:
I found that there were too many encounters that trapped you into combat by simply and accidentally walking within the line of sight of a baddy-in-waiting. And of course, during the extremely early leveling it was impossible not to get one-shotted to death occasionally.
Only 3 deaths is pretty darn good in my book, assuming you're not playing on easy easy or anything cheese like that, which I doubt.

No I am playing on core rules, I think the minimal deaths is because I am being so careful due to running a "new to me class". Got off work early today due to snow, yes, snowin like crazy in Waco, Tx, so I will probably just do some runnin around and clear some wilderness areas. Thanks for the help y'all!

Level seven now, just runnin around working on clearing out all the areas south of Bergost. Soon as I get them all clear along with the gnoll stronghold, I will move on to ruff up some bandits. Things are going smooth, I am enjoying the use of magic!! Already thinking about my next run through with a larger party, maybe evil, we will see.
