Haven't played BG2 in ages but keep seeing it pop up in various discussions all over the board. I went to reinstall the other day and a problem I was hoping someone could help with...
I have Vista.
Installed the game with no apparent issues.
Able to open, load and play game.
Issue occurs when the game auto-saves and when I save directly...
1. When the auto-save occurs, the game downsizes and I have a popup window saying the save failed and asks if I want to shut down the game. I can select no, and open the game back up and continue playing with no problem. However, this happens 100% of the time that an auto-save occurs.
2. When I choose to manually save a game, if I save in a new save spot, there is no issue. However, if I try to overwrite a saved game then I get the same popup that I detailed in example 1.
Also, it appears that the auto save IS actually saving from what I can tell. My attempts to overwrite saves DO NOT overwrite.
Any ideas? Something to do with running the game as administrator maybe?
Saving issue?

Do you have it installed under Program Files? 'Cos BG/BG2 doesn't like C:/Program Files/etc.
Try a reinstall in a new custom directory (i.e. make a new folder in your C drive along the lines of C:/Games/BG2etc) and that apparently removes most of the Vista hassles. I did so after researching it a bit before I decided to try BG2 again and it's worked fine for me, and I've modded it heaps.
Good luck.
