You can't get katanas legally until you reach Baldur's Gate II, though you could always cheat some in.

And if you give yourself anything better than a Katana +2 in BG1 you will unbalance the entire thing, so show restraint or you might as well just clear the game in 'god mode'. zzzzz zzz
