I started, fresh out of chateau Irenicus (it IS nice, isn't it?), with Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshi, Imoen, and myself, a fighter. I quickly got Aerie. I wanted to play an all good party, and once I got the ring of wizardry, Jaheira got the shove. I decided to pick up Keldorn, because he's as 'good' as they come, and I love his character. So I ended up with; Me, Keldorn, Minsc, Aerie, Yoshimo. At this point, it was a question of rush into battle, and just click on people. The most work I had to do was casting dispel magic with Keldorn, it was incredibly easy. Casomyr, Daystar and Celestial Fury did all the work. I even ended up having Aerie roll in with Mauler's arm and FoA.
I got bored, and having a spare slot with only 5 characters, decided to pick up Jaheira. Now with access to every spell in the game and three fighters, I just felt ridiculous. So here it is, the ULTIMATE good party:
Fighter (a whole HOST of long and short swords - I'm a mini mage + belt of inertial barrier and Valygar's armour, Shield of Harmony - I'm practically untouchable).
Jaheira (Blackblood + Belm, there's no other way to equip her, is there? Red dragon scale, dragon helm, girdle of hill giant strength - chuck in an ironskins and she's incredible).
Aerie (Ring of alcuity, ring of fire resistance, robe of fire resistance, helm of balduran, FoA/Mace of disruption + Mauler's Arm. I don't need to talk about how good Aerie is).
Imoen (Robe of good archmagi, staff of magi/celestial fury/tanesheron's bow - I'm undecided, cloak of non-detection etc etc).
So that's where I am FINALLY, it's taken me months. Battles are alot harder, I have to use everyone as opposed to just having Keldorn rush in and take things to pieces. Ok, so it's me running round with a load of women, but I'm not complaining. Is there anything I'm missing? Is someone going to say "Jan Jansen's really good". The way I see it, you HAVE to take Imoen, and I don't want TWO mage/thieves. Tell you what, it was hard saying goodbye to Minsc, but he just doesn't bring anything.
Appreciate thoughts/comments! Like I said it's taken me MONTHS to finally arrive here!
Think I've FINALLY decided on a party

Well...props for putting so much thought into it. I really like Keldorn, both as a character and as a dispatcher of life in the game. He rocks and it is not easy to dump him.
I also respect that you made your PC a fighter. That's pretty hard core. Aside from a few trinkets you pick up along the way, you're going to be dependent on others to buff yourself. Again, props on taking a more difficult path.
I see a few problems.
Who is going to fill your thief role while Imoen is away? Surely not Yoshimo. That doesn't feel too 'good' to me. If I told you how much XP there is in the game, just from picking locks and disarming traps, you'd probably be pretty horrified.
I know you want to avoid duplication of skill sets but your party of 4 (3 when Imoen is gone) will be demi-gods before you reach ToB, depending on how aggressive you are in completing every side quest. So you'll basically have 4 Keldorn-like slayers by the time you run into Cespenar. The game is too easy. I would highly recommend that you design a party of 6 for pacing purposes.
I would add Cernd because he is the least popular NPC and that is the ultimate act of 'good'. The dude needs some love too and maybe he can hook up with Jaheira while you pounst on Aerie (giggity giggity goo!).
Also, I don't see who is going to be your elite arcane spellcaster. None of the people you have will cast level 9 spells until almost the end of the game.
Just some random thoughts, not trying to crush your effort or dream. haha

No! Thanks RPG guy! Appreciate it! Yeah, I spent such a long time wondering what I'D be if I were in BG2, I finally decided that, seriously, I'd be a fighter (that is after playing practically to the end of chapter 2 as a fighter/cleric, a ranger, a ranger/cleric, a cleric, a paladin, an inquisitor) and I'm happy now I think.
I agree, to a point, that Yoshimo isn't the ideal "do gooder", but I admit I did take him to spellhold. Need a thief, man, need a thief. Also, if I were plonked into BG2, despite Jaheira and Yoshimo's allignments, I think I'd take them with me anyway. And I do think I'd have to dump Minsc and Keldorn, I mean, in real life Minsc would be a liability. And Keldorn, well, he wouldn't agree with picking all those locks, stealing all that treasure, and I'm afraid that I'm all for it. Despite being lawful good. I mean I'm good because I believe in good, and people being happy, and lawful purely because it HAS to be better than chaos. Doesn't mean I'm adverse to Yoshimo nicking a ring from Ribald if it makes my life easier, I mean he's retired, I need it, you know?
Oh I don't know, if it was real, I probably WOULD take Keldorn. S**t's hit the fan, K's your man, really.
I know what you mean about being demi-gods. I'm level 15, and I haven't even got to spellhold. (I went back, I'd forgotten 1 mislead scroll, and about 25 potions). SO, I'm thinking (and the thought almost makes me vomit) about STARTING AGAIN, now that I know who I want, and what I want, I can take direct routes to those things and avoid breezing into spellhold like I own the place.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
p.s. Cernd, interesting, but Jaheira just takes the biscuit. Mainly because Cernd's a p***y. Also, I know, I've had this problem before regarding a lack of level 9 spells. Crenshinibon is always going on about shapechange, and spell trigger. Christ, I couldn't even tell you what the Abi-Dazim's Horrid Wilting animation is... depressing.

Level 9 spells is *not* about being able to cast the best spells (although I would argue that Time Stop and Improved Alacrity are amongst the best). It's about demonstrating the ultimate expressions of arcane power.
Spell Trap + Absolute Immunity (walk around and laugh at anything)
Imprisonment (you bother me. be gone!)
Absolute Immunity + Black Blade (yes, I'm a mage...I will still thrash you)
Spell Strike (haha, you're naked again)
Also, feel free to grab Yoshimo just before you take the boat to Brynnlaw. You don't need him a second beforehand.

Healing
You have 2 multi classed healers, your healing capability will be somewhat limited. You won't have access to alot of the better spells until really late in the game.
Even though Anomen annoys the heck out of me, I just cant bring myself to boot him from the party. He goes up very rapidly and can specialize and dual attack. Slap some cleric buffs on him and he is incredible as well Give him the bracers to increase his Dex to 18, Belt of hill Giant Strength, up until you get Crom Feyr upgraded... then he rocks Flail of the Ages in primary and Crom Feyr off handed.... Slows almost everything and does insane damage. I also like his capability of summoning Skeletal Warriors at level 15.
I like having my fighter use Celestial Fury primary and Belm in off hand... the stunning capability is hard to deny. Imoen will only get 1 attack a round, 2 if hasted, and her THACO is rather pathetic. I know she can get stoneskinned with contigency and mirror image. Mobs can beat on her all day long and she can just take it.
It has been a LONG time, but I think I played Imoen all the way through as my thief... I just used the luck spell along with all the items available to enhance her skills... I cant remember if there were any I was missing or not.

See, I think I like Yoshimo. I like his character, and usually take him for as long as possible. Did someone say Anomen? Seriously, I couldn't stand to be near him, he's AWFUL, and Jaheira gets her high level spells quite quickly as a druid. See, the thing is, with Aerie, Jaheira and Imoen, you get access to EVERY spell in the game. Yes, Aerie and Jaheira dont get high level sqells quite as quickly as Viconia or Anomen, but they're usually only one level behind. And realistically, you can't NOT take Aerie, she's easily the most powerful character in the game. She outfights my fighter, even at three levels lower. Before someone says it, ok Haer'Dalis is a contender.
I BET that at any level, Jaheira would beat Anomen in a fight. I BET she would. Iron skins, Insect Plague, summon some s**t Anomen can't, and go to town on him. Be a good fight though.
