Plug-ins worth it?

Post by Salidin54 »

Are the official plug-ins really worth the money. I have the newest for for free but i'm still reluctant to get any of the other ones just yet.

I'm not sure about 'worth the money' they aren't exactly expensive, but the only one I think that is worth bothering with is 'The Thieves Den'. The rest are, in my opinion, a waste of time.

The Wizard's Tower is good, because it lets you begin enchanting items and making spells, as soon as you pick up the magetallow candles to get the altars running (you buy those in the Imperial City Market District). Normally you would not be able to do this until you gain admittance to the Arcane University, after completing all the mage guild recommendation quests.

The Tower is a cool place, with nice views over the mountains. My one complaint is that the library areas are too dark, and this game doesn't allow you to place your own lanterns and candles, like we could in Morrowind.

I enjoyed KoTN. Has some nice rewards if your charater is a warrior/crusader type.

Is this DLC?

Where do you get the Tower? The Oblivion Downloads site is down and I don't see links on Planet Elder Scrolls or TESNexus for this plugin.

It was an official plugin, that you purchased from Bethesda and unfortunately it doesn't appear to be available anymore. I couldn't find it anywhere, if someone else knows where to get it legally maybe they'll post a link. I wouldn't hold your breath though.

It appears that the Wizard's Tower may be part of the Knights of the Nine bundle...anyone able to confirm that? The direct2drive site doesn't show what exactly is included in that purchase, just new territories (etc).

If so, that's an easy buy, less than $5.

The KoTN stand alone disc contains the DLC, but the GOTY edition (which includes SI and KoTN) does not contain the DLC. You can still get the Knights disc from Amazon, however, it does not contain the final DLC - Fighter's Stronghold, making that last one is impossible to get legally.

They're all just house mods anyways.

Good to know. D2D has both I see now. The KOT9 by itself is $5, the one with the DLC is $20. Thanks for that info, saved me from buying the wrong one.

well after buying some and playing them for years I have decided that:
Thieves Den: worth it
Mehrunes Razor: worth it
Knights of Nine: worth it
Shivering Isles: worth it
Fighter's Stronghold: worth it
Vile Lair: worth it
Wizard's Tower: worth it

I think it depends entirely on personal perspective. My own feeling is that many of the user-made mods (that you can download for free) far exceed the official mods in overall quality and creativity.
I suggest you check out Oblivion's Real Estate for a taste of the types of fan-created house mods you can acquire.

I don't count Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine in that, since they are more properly expansions than DLCs, especially the former.
I definitely think Shivering Isles is worth it; I just wish the entire game was as good. Knights of the Nine is OK, I suppose, but to really appreciate it you probably need a more paladin-like type of character.

Mehrune's Razor... It's not bad.. if you like repetitive dungeon crawling.

My two cents anyway.

I have to go with DW here, not counting SI and KoN which are really expansions I don't see much worth in the others.

Some of the mods I am playing right now already, even though I haven't even properly started, offer more than the DLC did.
And He whispered to me in the darkness as we lay together, Tell Me where to touch you so that I can drive you insane; tell Me where to touch you to give you ultimate pleasure, tell Me where to touch you so that we will truly own each other. And I kissed Him softly and whispered back, Touch my mind.

Well if you enjoy four cheese pizzas., with extra cheese on top, then there's a fan made mod called Frostcrag Reborn, which is very well made, for which you'd need The Wizard's Tower. It' has far too many uber items and abilities for my liking though. A real game killer IMO.

The WT is useful if for role playing reasons you refuse to join the Mages guild, Likewise Thieves Stronghold is good if you don't want to join the thieves guild, but do want access to a fence and a lockpick seller or two.

Mehrune's Razor is just a dungeon crawl, with a rubbish reward at the end of it (my opinion of course), although you will pick up some worthwhile stuff on the way.

The Orrery is probably the biggest waste of space, unless you want to spend time waiting for the right spell to come round once you completed it. If a fire spell that does 20 points of damage for 60 seconds appeals, or having 20 points more on your luck, then it'd be worth it.

Shivering Isles is well worth it, the only problem I've found with it is it could do with some expansion. Like KotN it does require the right charfacter if you're role playing of course. I'm not sure you could really do both with the same character if you are role playing; the quest does need the character to be a rather nasty character to complete it really.

KotN, not a bad mod, more an expansion, as DW has said, you also need to have the right sort of character to get the best out of it if you're a role player.

I'd agree. Basically I view it that I got a bunch of "free houses" and some armor for my horse. Could've saved the money for the first two houses I bought, although the All in One Basement Mod doesn't apply to the KOTN expansion houses (Wizards Tower, Thieves Den, etc). I think there was only one real quest chain for The Prophet which I haven't done yet.

The Boat House is pretty nice though. I might actually fix that one up to see what it looks like. And Wizard's Tower does give you access to a bunch of cool stuff
