worst game ever

Post by terran698 »

for all that choose to read this bear in mind that i was Pi$$ed off when writing this because of the game in question. i personally think i is the worst game i have ever played as far as fun factor, and thats after playing dungeon lords.

the game in question is Prism: Guard Shield. you stick to everything when trying to maneuver around stuff and you cant hide/stealth even when the game description says that you can. to give you an example of what i mean by that i was 100+ yards away (according to scope on gun) in grass twice as high as my highest point(i was in prone) and the guy on the other side of the hill spotted me and come running and shooting and when 1 guy starts shooting everybody in the immediate vicinity automatically knows where you are.

after you figure out that they are shooting at you(because you cant see anything because the grass blocks your view) you try to weave back and forth to dodge the bullets (like in doom3) but some how the enemy has perfect aim. which brings me to another point, the scope is USELESS it wobbles/sways so much and so fast that you cant hit anything literally. the iron sights are perfect for steadiness no matter what position your in while the scope wobbles excessively in any position(not seen any effect of different positions).

after you get past this you think that since you cant aim good you might try to snipe some guys so you have some time before they get to you that you might be able to kill them but find out that there are no high spots. the best you get is flat ground no rooftops no trees no anything! then you have rockets that follow you that kill you in 1 hit. when you have a rocket launcher your rockets dont follow the enemy.

the enemy gets special positions to snipe you out and when you kill them in their special positions their ammo stays in the special position where you cant get to it  then another thing that pi$$es me off is the enemy can shoot through walls! i dont know how many times i have been killed by the enemy shooting me through walls or by imposible headshots, like being shot out of range of the ak-47 replica(medium/long range gun) by a shotgun or the tec-9 replica which are close range accurate only guns. now dont get me wrong the game looks good and doesnt have many lock-up bugs but saying that the gameplay itself sucks would be an understatement.

Seriously - some spaces in that wall-of-text would do you a lot of good if you expect people to read/comment.

Yes, indeed..

@Terran,
I honestly don't intend to sound rude or snarky, but a lot of the people on this board are pretty literate, and things like paragraphs, capitalisation and punctuation will probably ensure that your post is more widely read. ;)

there

Well I edited it so all the English majors would be happy and I know its still not perfect. I still have run-on sentences and missing punctuation and capitalization errors. Maybe this will satisfy them enough to focus on the game instead of my grammar.

No one expects you to be perfect gramatically. I abuse the English language regularly via spelling mistakes and typos. The problem comes in when members are faced with one giant wall of text with no punctuation or breaks.

This may not be a problem on a lot of boards, but the membership here is on average probably older than on most other sites I've been to. As a result, they aren't used to seeing that style of posting. If you're not used to seeing that sort of thing regularly, it is a serious problem to be able to read a post like that and make any sense of it. Most people just ignore the post because it's too much work for them to try and decipher what was written.

The members who commented on your post are long time members who probably offered the suggestion they did to help you increase response to your post. If they hadn't replied, it's very likely no one would have replied because it was very difficult to read as it stood for most of us here.

You have not seen 'worst ever'. I call your game and raise you Descent to Undermountain. :p

A sad game, really. Some fantastic developers, but the entire project went awry, and they ended up releasing something that wasn't even close to alpha, much less finished. I panned it. Another reviewer I know, who fancies himself an intellectual (and got a game reviewer published once by the New York Times, which of course proves it) thought it was magnificent because you could climb into windows.

My most noteworthy piece of trash, however, would be Ring. It was a French graphical adventure (published by Cryo Interactive) that featured Wagner's Ring Cycle for its music, and made so many basic errors of judgment as to be laughable.

Imagine clicking on a door only to be told the next second you plummeted to your death, because there was no floor on the other side. And had to reload.

That might have been acceptable back in 1982, but not in 2000. The puzzles were awful, the graphics a shambles, the content meager. The publicity discussed the developer as though he were a combination of Gandhi, Rasputin, and Einstein.

the worst game I ever played was Football Pro 99 by Sierra Sports. It had been a good franchise, and had a pretty decent following, but that version was absolute trash. Rush released for the holidays, the game was simply unplayable on release. teams lined up out of bounds on occasion, it took an ungodly amount of time to sim games and a host of other issues. It was so bad Sierra wound up recalling the game. They couldn't even patch it to playability.

They actually canceled the series. According to the press release, the game couldn't be fixed in time to make a new version in 2000 even with an additional 6-8 months of work. One game killed the entire franchise. It was simply unbelievable how bad the thing actually was.

Franchise killers. I think it's safe to say that the ninth entries of both the Ultima and Might & Magic series put the final nails in the coffin. In a slight coincidence, both series also showed decline on the #8 entry to the series. Thankfully, Wizardry did not have that issue and stopped at the right time.

Probably because control of the series remained thoroughly invested in the paranoid hands of the Sir-Tech folks. :D Whereas Garriott was quick to blame just about everybody working under him as well as EA, his new bosses, for the relative failure of Ultima 8, and the head of 3DO (who was a former EA bigwig) rushed M&M VIII out of the door over the head of its development team because he needed cash for his other projects.

Making yourself a wholly owned subsidiary of a monster with a history of viewing acquisitions as cash cows is generally not a good idea.

Worst game of all time? Now that is something we could talk about forever!

I'm a nice guy however, and i will keep it extremely short : Parts 8+ of Ultima, M&M, Final Fantasy. And all Heroes of Might and Magic parts except for 3. However the worst, most disastrous to the good name of whole set of games was.. The Elder Scrolls 4 : Oblivion. After awesome, spectacular Morrowind, Arena and Buggerfall.. To release a pile of **** like that!? Oblivion memories alone made me avoid Fallout 3 till january this year.

A tough competitor from RPG group is also Neverwinter Nights 2 (vanilla).

Kind regards

Hmmm...
Oblivion or NWN I ... hard to say which was worse.
Maybe they are on the same level. NWN I was a horrible let down after BG2, Oblivion was was a miserable failing after Morrowind.
Thinking about it, I suppose Oblivion is a bit better because there are a vast number of mods out there that help fix most of the issues. The problem is that you need to spend at least half a day installing them all, so it's a major headache.

Same opinion here DW... :)
Finally got tired of working with the mods on Oblivion,
(Although I worked over 200 with Morrowind...LOL)

So tried the son-in-laws Xbox version, it would let me start the game, but would lock up in trying to enter the main city.....then went out and bought a used copy for my Xbox....
the Karma gods just didn't want me to play this game,
my copy would lock up at the same place...go figure :(

I just went back to Morrowind and BG I and II on computer. :)
although I do enjoy Fallout 3 on Xbox...
I do not intend to tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at death"-anon ;)
