Actually I have not received my copy yet (Amazon shipped it two weeks ago via the post office, oh, oh), but I have played through the demo twice. The reason I have not tried this game until now was because of some bad reviews. But the CE version seemed to have cleared the problems up. Not one of those reviews ever mentioned the story line, which I find interesting. The first RPG I ever played was wizardry on the apple II, and DW Bradley made it interesting without a lot of fancy and involved graphics.
I own many RPG's and frankly the current ones which have been introduced with great fanfare are disappointing. What ever happened to the thrill of discovery and using some ingenuity to slove problems. RPGs have become more technically sophisticated but they have lost the lure of the story line and seemed to be too contrived now to be of any entertainment value.
Actually Duingeon Lords does a much better job of telling a story and keeping you interested. While there is a path to follow it doesn't intrude upon your freedom with the game. It has a certain entertainment value that the more heralded RPGs are sadly lacking.
I do have a question however, how do you identify things. I played a dwarf and he seemed to always id new equipment if he had a 50% chance, but I also played a human female warrior and she never ID' d anything. Love the game.
Will there be a mod builder with the next version? Hope so.
New to Dungeon lords CE but not to RPGs
Unlike some other games there is no specific "identify" spell. Your character can either identify the object or it cannot. You have more chance of identifying an object if you can actually *use* the object. I haven't checked to see if it is ONLY thieves that have the 'identify' skill, but I know that as a thief, you do gain the 'identify' skill and as that rises your ability to identify objects rises.Scherzi wrote: I do have a question however, how do you identify things.
To identify, right click the object--but you already know that. I'll assume that you also know you can pay a shopkeeper to identify an object as well.
According to the walkthrough, these classes have the Identify skill:
Budoka, Cabalist, Celestial, Hunter, Kenjasai, Monk, Ninja Lord, Ranger Lord, Rogue, Shaolei Master, Shugenja, Stargazer, Trickster
Dungeon Lords is in it's final release state, so if that is what you mean by "next version", then the answer is a definite no.
Dungeon Lords: The Orb and the Oracle is indefinitely "on hold", and there is not much hope for it ever being released. So if that is what you mean by "next version", then the answer is more thank likely, no.

Identify and Next "version"
I was playing a fighter in the demo and identifying the items was difficult. At least I can use the item even I don't know anything about it. Thanks for the feed back.
I am disappointed to hear that the "next version" is unlikely to be released. Dungeon Lords was a strightforward fantasy RPG, which is more than I can say for most other products on the market. DW Bradley can tell a good story and design a good RPG, maybe some other publisher will pick up the project, but I agree it does not look promising.
