Multiplayer won't work, Help!

I'm on Windows 7, and single player works fine (SoA with ToB installed). However, whenever I try to create a multiplayer game (to play a custom party I've devised) the game crashes every time, without fail. I have the latest patch (I'm pretty sure), yet I'm sure this is something small that will only need a quick fix - yet I'm stuffed if I can work it out! I'm dying to play my custom party.

Any advice/suggestions?

I have had the same problem on Vista, I found a solution somewhere by googling the error message, but it did not work for me for other reasons, so I promptly forgot it. Sorry that I can be of no more help, but try googling the error message.
